UPDATED: The San Francisco Giants won their appeal against the Chicago Cubs after the grounds crew failed to get the tarp on the field before the rain made it unplayable. The game will resume in the bottom of the 5th inning Thursday afternoon at 4:05pm with the Cubs leading 2-0. This was the first appeal to be won by a Major League Baseball team since 1986.
It obviously sucks to play for the Chicago Cubs, but I didn't know it sucks to be the grounds crew for the Chicago Cubs.
This comes from Tuesday's game where a quick storm came to the Northside of Chicago, leaving the Friendly Confines grounds crew a little flustered while trying to get the tarp on the field.
It took the crew about 6-7 minutes to fully get the field covered, while fans in the crowd chanted "Pull, Pull, Pull!"
San Francisco broadcast team thought the whole thing was staged as a way to delay the game more, as the Cubs were leading 2-0 when the storm arrived.
The game was finally called by the umpiring crew just after 1am due to unplayable condition. The rainstorm only lasted 15 minutes.
