The headling is simple "How much is $100 worth in Illinois?" You might say $100, right?
Not really. Cost of living can actually change how much $100 is really worth depending on where you live. The Tax Foundation released the map below to show how much $100 gets you in each state. They used federal data for regional prices to caculate the differences. Items they kept track on included:
- Fuel oil
- Men's shirts
- Airline fares
- Hospital stays
- Tickets to sporting events
- College tuition
- Funeral expenses
Mississipi went the farthest with $100 being worth $115.74 and Washington DC was at the bottom where it's only worth $84.60.
What about here in Illinois? As seen in the map below, we're almost at $100 with it being worth $99.40. Not too shabby.
