Soundgarden is offering their new tune “Live To Rise” for free on iTunes. The song will be the title track for the comic book movie Marvel’s The Avengers. Did I mention the song is free via iTunes? It’s either a ploy to get you to update to the latest version of iTunes or maybe they just want you to have the song for free … either way, get over there and download it! It’s free music! Plus it’s the first Soundgarden song in 15 years.
During the Rock Hall induction over the weekend – I know, we’re still talking about it – Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum made a comment about drummer Steven Adler’s excessive drug use. Sorum recalled that Slash contacted Sorum to replace Adler because he did too many drugs. Sorum responded saying how that was possible with GN’R. Now, the drummer says it was meant to be lighthearted. He also says that everyone in the band were “full-blown drug addicts” when they split up.
Oh, and speaking of substance abuse, Eddie Van Halen blames his battle with alcohol on his father. The shredder told Esquire magazine that he had asked his father how to calm stage fright and his father gave him a smoke and some vodka. That calmed Van Halen’s nerves but also started what Van Halen calls “the whole alcoholism thing.” Way to take responsibility, there Eddie!
