Remember the story where The Black Keys were going after Pizza Hut and Home Depot claiming the pizza joint and home improvement store were using the band’s music without their permission? Well, the two companies’ lawyers are fighting back. The Black Keys say that Pizza Hut used parts of “Gold on the Ceiling” to promote cheesy crust pizza and that Home Depot used parts of “Lonely Boy” to push power tools. The attorneys for the two companies filed documents denying the claims and also requesting that the band pay attorney fees if they win. This could get messy!
Up for parole ... again
Mark David Chapman's Mugshot
Anytime the murderer of a music legend comes up for parole, it’s news! When a murderer comes is up for parole for the sixth time after being denied every time before that … it’s definitely news. John Lennon’s murderer Mark David Chapman (of course you’ve gotta say all three names) will be interviewed by a parole board as early as tomorrow and the decision could come by the end of the week. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in 1981 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. He’s been denied parole six times.
Bitter Sweet Cancellation
The cancellation of the first-ever Mayhem Cruise has some of the performers a bit confused. A cancelation announcement posted to the cruise’s website earlier this month simply said due to reasons beyond their control they had to cancel. Full refunds were given to people who purchased tickets and an added caveat, people who did purchase tickets, in 2013, they get a lifetime pass to Monster’s Rock Star Energy Mayhem Festival. That’s pretty sweet.
