Rock icons sound off about new pope

So, just who in the rock world is reacting to the election of a new pope? A few notables include Ozzy Osbourne and Anthrax’s Scott Ian. The election of Pope Francis the I yesterday splashed world news as Catholics around the globe now have a new leader for the Holy See. In a Tweet from Ozzy Osbourne, he references #sweetleaf because of the white smoke that came pouring out of the Sistine Chapel.

Meanwhile Scott Ian didn’t have too many nice things to say. His tweet, full of expletives about who cares, says for someone to notify him when King Diamond is elected pope. When that happens, we’ll send you the smoke signals, Scott.

Dude died outside Volbeat show

A man has died after fleeing from security at a Volbeat show in Texas. Lubbock, Texas, media reports that the 39-year-old was attempting to enter the venue where Volbeat was performing. The thing is, dude was trying to jump a fence. When security spotted him he ran and then fell 20 feet off a roof and hit his head on the concrete. Jubal Colvin was early stopped from entering the venue because he had a knife. The radio station promoting the show posted to their website that it really was a senseless accident which apparently involved alcohol and didn’t need to happen.  Watch a Texas media report about the incident below:

No new album expected

There’s a bit more insight into what’s going to happen with Nine Inch Nails this year. Front man Trent Reznor, having just released a full length album with his side project How to Destroy Angels, tells NME magazine in the UK that the band will be touring … possibly with some new music. But that new music is something that was meant for a best of compilation. He says there isn’t a plan for a new album … at this time. Only 5 dates have been posted to Nine Inch Nail’s website, but a full blown arena tour in the US is expected this fall.
