F*ck Your Photo, & "I've Got A Golden Ticket"

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

It's Tommy Lee, Tommy Lee, Tommy Lee
It's Tommy Lee, and no he won't take a photo with you. But he will do The Tommy Lee Waltz

F*ck your photo

So, it’s become a replacement for the signature. You run into a celebrity and you wanna get your picture taken with them. Everyone’s got that camera in their pocket, so instead of getting that pen on paper, why not prove to everyone you met the celeb by getting a picture and posting it on Facebook or Twitter? Well, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee is not a big fan of taking pictures with fans. He posted an open letter on several social networks saying he loves his fans but hates it when they whip out a camera. Lee says he’s not there to take pictures with you. He’s there to entertain you. Also, for fans who think Lee owes them something … their wrong. He says “Nobody put me where I am but ME!”

*To spite Tommy Lee, if you have some pics with rock stars that you'd like to share, we'll start up an archive here on WQLZ.com. Just send your pics to bishop@wqlz.com

"I've got a golden ticket"

Earlier this week, told you about the new Anthrax Coffee. Well, as the wine craze of late where rockers from all sides of the spectrum are getting their own wines (well, some are making it them selves like Maynard … others are merely slapping labels on pre-packaged wine and calling their own) now it appears that putting out your own coffee line is the next hot thing. Joey Kramer from Aerosmith is starting up his own coffee brand. It’s called Rockin’ and Roastin’ Arabica coffee. He says it’s forest and farmer friendly and uses organic, free trade beans from Ethiopia, Guatemala and Sumatra. Don’t care? Maybe having a golden ticket in a package will get you to buy it. Find the golden ticket, get free passes to an Aerosmith show. Find out more at RockinandRoastin.com

Riding High, DVD Release Expected, Anthrax's Coffee & Silver Screen

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Riding High

"Oceania" by The Smashing Pumpkins
Oceania by The Smashing Pumpkins

Let’s take a look at the charts this morning … you know, get a sense of the pulse of America. For one band it was a good opening with Smashing Pumpkins landing at No. 4 with just over 54,000 copies sold--pretty good for the first commercially available album in 5 years. Zeitgeist, released in 2007, sold over 145,000 copies and landed at No. 2. Meanwhile Rush is on top of the charts at No. 2 this week for the release of Clockwork Angels.

DVD Release Expected

Korn will be releasing a DVD titled “The Path of Totality Tour: Live at Hollywood Palladium.” The name pretty much sums up what it is. Expect that out September 4th. That show was filmed late last year.

Anthrax's Coffee

Looking for that morning pick me up and are a fan of Anthrax? Well, soon you’ll be able to pick up some coffee creations from Charlie Benante, the drummer of Anthrax. Dude loves coffee so much he actually has a Starbucks tattoo. That’s pretty hardcore. Expect to pick up some of this rockin’ coffee sometime this summer.

Silver Screen

Rock stars in the movies—Filter’s Richard Patrick and David Yow of Jesus Lizard will be playing rolls in a new movie about baseball. It’s called “High and Outside: A Baseball Noir.” It’s about a guy who wants to go pro so bad he’ll do anything. You can imagine the antics that will bring to the silver screen. There’s no word yet on when the film will be out.

Corgan Rails Against "Reality," Rollins Rolling to Springfield, & Lawsuit Settled

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Corgan rails against "reality"

Billy Corgan's interview with Alex Jones from InfoWars.com

He’s got a new album out and he’s using that as a platform to wake people up from their matrix stupor. Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan appeared on The Alex Jones Show, an alternative theory talk show that talks about the global elite controlling every aspect of our lives. Corgan talked about his new album, Oceania, and provides insight into several of the songs from the new attempt. Jones and Corgan talked about the zombie and robot class being brainwashed by false emotion ploys in order to get compliance. For years, Corgan has been bucking the system, refusing to “sell out” to the man and keep silent about his philosophies. Having a new album that is commercially released and doing quite well just gave Corgan another oprotunity to speak out.

Rollins rolling to Springfield

Speaking of speaking out—Black Flag founder and radical commentarian Henry Rollins will be coming to Springfield for his “Capitalism” tour. The gimmick is that Rollins, who’s had huge success with his punk band Black Flag and also with his other project (rightly named) The Henry Rollins Band, will be going to the capital city of every state to share his spoken word. The plan is to start in Honolulu September 6th. He’ll be in Springfield October 11th and then in the nation’s capital just before Election Day in November.

Lawsuit settled

And, Anthrax settled a $2.65 million lawsuit filed by their former singer Dan Nelson. Apparently Nelson was fired from the band. The band said he left because of illness. Nelson denied that and sued. They settled with undisclosed terms.

The Most Suspicous Matchbook I've Ever Seen, I Like It, I Like It ... Love's Lawyers & Erna Back At It This Week

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

The most suspicious match book I've ever seen, I Like it, I Like it

Foxy Shazam Matchbooks
Suspicious Foxy Shazam Matchbooks, pic by Whitney Connelly

It’s not everyday that a package from a record company prompts the evacuation of a radio station building … but that’s exactly what happened yesterday here at Riverton Radio Ranch and it’s a surefire way to get mentioned in the Music Minute. A package containing promotional matches from the band Foxy Shazam must have been crushed as the match heads turned to dust and poured out of an envelope prompting haz-mat crews and fire stations from around the area to give the all clear. All personnel, except for the on-air staff, were evacuated. The all clear was eventually given.

Love's lawyers

She just can’t keep herself out of trouble. If it’s not some friend or her daughter going after her, it’s her lawyers. Courtney Love is being sued by her former lawyers for over $400,000. Love’s people fired back at press reports saying that the lawyers haven’t worked for the Hole front woman for a long time and they’re baffled by the whole deal. They also claim that Love has not been served any papers and as far as they’re concerned there is no law suit. Apparently, the suit hasn’t been filed. Tabloid trashers TMZ says they’ve seen the complaint and it accuses Love of writing bad checks to cover attorney fees.

Erna back at it this week

Sully Erna has been on the mend for the past week, causing Godsmack to cancel a slew of dates in Europe. The front man was advised by his doctors to rest his voice after he got sick from an unspecified illness. They’ll be back at it on Thursday in Austria.

"Lonely" & "Gold" Ripped Off, New Guitar App, & Manson Stars in TV Show

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

"Lonely" & "Gold" ripped off

The Black Keys have shown just how cocky they really are by filing suit against Home Depot and Pizza Hut. They claim the two brands have been ripping off their music. The federal lawsuits say that Home Depot used elements of “Lonely Boy” without the band’s permission to sell power tools. They also say that Pizza Hut used “Gold on the Ceiling” to sell a new line of pizza bites. The suit asks for $75,000 apiece and an order to stop the commercials. Both Home Depot and Pizza Hut deflected comments, simply saying they respect intellectual property rights.

New guitar app

Slash shows off his new guitar application

Slash has teamed up with IK Multimedia to produce a guitar rig simulator that allows you to plug your guitar into your mobile device or desktop computer and use a ton of different Slash-style effects and amp-simulators. Slash says that he got the idea when he was on the road trying to come up with new riffs and he wanted something mobile to help with that. Marilyn Manson continues his acting career.

Manson stars in TV show

Next on his casting call is staring as himself in an episode of Showtime’s “Californication.” One of the characters meets up with Manson at a house party thrown by a rock star. The next season premiers early next year.

Horror Coffee Table Book, Another Teaser, Greatest Hits This Fall

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Replica Bunny Suit
A replica of the Donny Darko bunny suit.  Hammet owns the real thing

Horror coffee table book

Not much of a reader but a fan of Metallica? You may want to pick up a new hobby and crack a book open. Kirk Hammet is planning to release a book, but it’s not gonna be a huge and dense novel, it’s gonna be a coffee table book, so there won’t be that much reading. The plan is for the book to highlight Hammet’s monster-movie memorabilia. Too Much Horror Business will feature hundreds of items from the guitarist’s personal collection. He’s got the annotated script from the early Dracula movie and even that creepy bunny suit from the cult classic Donny Darko. So, there’ll be a ton of pics and captions and descriptions written by Hammet. Expect to pick that up for yourself and your friends October 1st, just in time for Halloween.

Another teaser

Green Day has released another trailer for the second of three albums the band plans to release. Last week ¡Uno! was teased with a trailer. Now we’ve see ¡Dos! promoted with a 30-second clip. In the video, available online, you’ll see more in-studio shenanigans, some on-stage antics and more. ¡Uno! comes out September 23rd. ¡Dos! hits store shelves November 13th.

Greatest hits this fall

3 Doors Down plans a greatest hits release this fall that will feature three new tunes. The band says this doesn’t mean they’re breaking up. They’re currently on tour with ZZ Top.

Album streaming

Getting ready for new Offspring? Well, your wait is over! RollingStone.com is currently streaming their new album before you can even get your hands on it. The first in four years for The Offspring, Days Go By comes in at eleven new tracks with a re-recording of the tune “Dirty Magic” from their 1992 album. Front man Dexter Holland says that the band had a burst of creativity with the new attempt, telling rolling stone that they didn’t have a ton of pressure and were able to just say “Hey, f**k it!” You’ll be able to get a copy of Days Go By in stores this coming Tuesday.

Orion on Fuse

So there’s that whole Orion Music + More Festival thingy that Metallica is putting together, with live music from some great rock bands in a carnival-type atmosphere with rides and art and freaks and more … Well, it’s all the way in Atlantic City, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss it! Fuse TV is planning to air the select performances from the festival on their cable channel and there’ll be even more extras at Fuse’s YouTube Channel. That’s this weekend. Check your local listings.

One off Monster festival

It’s called Aftershock, and it’s the most recent version of a festival from Monster Energy Drink—but it’s not coming near you. It’s just a one off September 23rd in California. The lineup features Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Deftones, Chevelle, Hollywood Undead, and others.

Dude Stole From Pearl Jam, Out This Week, & More Dates

Eddie Vedder displays unauthorized wine bought with the band's credit card ... not really, but it works for this story
Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder displays unauthorized wine purchased with the band's credit card ... not really, but it works for this story.

Dude stole from Pearl Jam

You’d think the privilege of working with a world renowned rock band would keep people from stepping out of line and, I don’t know, not steal. Well that’s not the case of Pearl Jam’s chief financial officer Rickey Charles Goodrich. He’s charged with stealing $380,000 from the band during a four year span. The band says it’s more like $566,000. Prosecutors in the case say Goodrich was transferring money from band accounts to pay off his debts and used band credit cards to buy stuff like wine and vacations. Dude’s got a court date June 28th … and of course, he wouldn’t comment to the press.

Out this week

It was kind of under the radar, but Lit released a new album this week. The View From The Bottom is about the band’s late drummer who died of a brain tumor in 2009. The band says that after Allen Schellenberger passed away, it wasn’t the first reaction to write songs. They went through some rough times. But, those rough emotions were replaced with timeless songs indicating the band is moving forward.

More dates

Stone Temple Pilots announced a short tour. They’ll be at the Riviera in Chicago September 9th. The tour is part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the band’s first album Core. There will be special, money makers for the band, ‘er—I mean VIP meet-and-greet packages available, so be sure to grab those up!

Out Today, A Bunch of Twofors, & Live DVD

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

"Oceania" by The Smashing Pumpkins
"Oceania" by The Smashing Pumpkins

Out today

Smashing Pumpkins releases their new album today. This is after front man Billy Corgan tried getting fans to support a different platform of releasing tunes. He had put out a slew of tracks, for free online, called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. While die-hards flocked to it, it still didn’t perform up to Corgan’s standards. That wasn’t what Corgan had predicted would happen. He’s been critical of the music biz recently saying that it’s changed drastically. In spite of knowing the landscape has changed, Corgan decided to release a full-out album. You can pick up Oceania today.

A bunch of twofors

Red Hot Chili Peppers are releasing song pairings over a span of several months from August to early next year. The tunes were recorded during the I’m With You sessions. They’ll release the songs “Strange Man” and “Long Progression” August 14th. Then they’ll release two more September 11th … then two more October 2nd, November 6th, December 4th, December 18th and into next year. You’ll be able to grab those up either digitally or on a 7-inch vinyl which all you audiophiles are sure to enjoy.

Live DVD

Speaking of releases, Incubus is about to release a DVD/CD of a free concert they performed last summer. It’s gonna be called “Incubus HQ Live,” and will feature a mix of six different nights Incubus played shows—concerts that were also streamed online. But, you’ll be able to pick up the high quality version on DVD and CD August 14th, the same day Incubus kicks off a tour with Linkin Park.

One Dead In Stage Collapse, Chi Has Pneumonia, & Adelitas Way Added

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Video of the aftermath of the Toronto stage collapse

One dead in stage collapse

It happened again and this time it took only one life. A stage collapse over the weekend in Toronto killed one stage hand a few hours before a Radiohead concert. The band says they are “shattered by the loss” of their drum tech, Scott Johnson. Johnson died when he was crushed by part of the stage that fell when the road crew was assembling the set up. There were also three injuries. All this happened at around 4 in the afternoon. The doors for the show were set to open at 5. Needless to say, the stage was wrecked and the sold-out show was canceled. Last year at the Indiana State Fair, just before Sugarland was set to perform, 7 people died when a stage collapsed due to high winds.

Chi has pneumonia

In other depressing news, Deftones’ original bassist Chi Cheng has been moved to intensive care for pneumonia. Thankfully reports indicate that he is improving. The bassist has been in a coma-like state for nearly 4 years after he was involved in a serious car accident. He had been moved from the hospital to home care about a week ago but had to head back when the pneumonia set in. For updates and to donate to help Cheng, visit OneLoveForChi.com.

Adelitas Way added to lineup

If you didn’t hear, Friday it was announced that Adelitas Way will be opening up for Theory of a Deadman and Creed at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand August 16th. Tickets range from $25 to $35 and are available at the Grandstand box office or online at Ticketmaster.com.

Album Trailer & KISS, "The Family Guy"

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Album trailer

Green Day is joining a bunch of other bands and releasing movie-type trailers of their upcoming album. The video shows the band in and out of the studio ripping chords, slammin’ drums and also just lounging around what appears to be the band reviewing their tracks. The video finishes with a still of what could be the cover of the album iUno! and a message that pre-orders will be taken soon at GreenDay.com. iUno! will be available September 25th with two follow up albums to be made available later this year. Wanna guess what those are gonna be called? If you guessed iDos! & Tré you get a star for the day!

KISS, "The Family Guy"

It’s an ongoing bout with greed that KISS seems to have as they hook up with the makers of “The Family Guy” to make some special merchandise. Apparently, Gene Simmons and Stewie are joining teams. The Fox TV show and the rock band are partnering for a line thwt will come out this fall. What’s included? You’ll have the normal stuff like clothes and some stuffed animals. There’s also going to be bobbleheads. Flippin’ bobbleheads!? As if the world had a shortage of chinsy bobbleheads, here comes KISS and “The Family Guy” to flood the market with more! Of course, “The Family Guy” had to be vetted before they could team up with Merch Masters KISS. Paul Stanley said that the show’s consistent success makes the match ideal.

Metallica offers reward, Corgan attacks Radiohead and Papa Roach to chat with fans

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Metallica offers reward

Her name was Morgan Harrington and she disapereared back in October of 2009 after attending a Metallica concert. The band has been very supportive to the family and the search efforts and now they’re offering up $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Harrington’s remains were found three months after the concert in Charlottesville, Virginia. DNA evidence linked the suspect with 2005 sexual assault case. Metallica front man James Hetfield says in a PSA that no matter what the info is, big or small, it could be crucial to help solve the case.

Corgan attacks Radiohead

Billy Corgan's smug mug

It’s kind of a bizarre attack … Billy Corgan slams esentric alt-rockers Radiohead. But surely it’s only to get publicity before Smashing Pumpkins release their new album next week, right? In comments made to NME Magazine, which is based out of the same region of the world Radiohead hales from, Corgan said he doesn’t think the band should bet the loud praise they regularly receive. Corgan says that he reveres bands like Deep Purple more than Radiohead. Corgan’s album with the Smashing Pumpkins, Oceiania, comes out next week.

Papa Roach to chat with fans

Papa Roach will be making a big announcement today when they open up an online chat with fans beginning at 5p CST. The band could be announcing details about their forthcoming album, which is expected in stores sometime September. Front man Jacoby Shaddix recently told American Forces Network that the album process is moving right along, but they don’t have a name for the record quite yet.  Get more details about the chat at Papa Roach's Facebook Page.

Guilty Plea, Hollywood Star & New Album Streaming

Michael Todd's Mugshot

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Guilty

Michael Todd, that dope from Coheed and Cambria that held up a pharmacists just before one of their concerts in Rhode Island last year—well, he pleaded guilty to stealing prescription painkillers. Todd was sentenced to one year of home confinement and three years probation. Plus, he’s ordered to continue drug treatment, or should I says rehab, ‘cuz I think he was trying the whole drug treatment thing—that’s why he needed the fix. If you don’t remember, the reports indicated that Todd had used a cell phone to hold up the pharmacy. He handed the clerk the cell phone with a message saying he had a bomb and demanded drugs. Naturally, he was kicked out of the band. Slash just keeps getting more famous by the day!

Hollywood star

The legendary shredder now has a star on the sidewalk in Hollywood. The cool thing is, Guns N’ Roses doesn’t even have a star, nor does Axl! There will be an unvailing of the new star July 10th. None other than Charlie Sheen will be the gust speaker helping usher in Slash’s stardom.

New album streaming

If you’ve got iTunes be sure to swing by and stream Smashing Pumpkins forthcoming release Oceania. Front man Billy Corgan made the album available to stream a week before you can buy it in stores.

Clockwork Angles released

It’s new music Tuesday! In stores today you’ll be able to find Rush’s first album in 5 years, Clockwork Angels. But, it’s an acquired taste. Even front man Geddy Lee says that if you like Rush, you’ll love the album. If you don’t, then “you’re in hell.” The band has been trying to put out Clockwork Angels for years but had problems with record companies … probably trying to screw them out of some money. Anyways, you can listen to a 50 minute interview with the members of Rush conducted by Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan where the band talks about the new album in detail.

Greatest-app

Weekend Festivals, Download Fest & Zombie's Movie Update

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Weekend festivals around the world

Bannaroo wasn’t the only festival over the weekend. There was also the Sweden Rock Festival. And knowing how much the Swedes like their rock, the lineup makes total sense. They had Motley Crue, Soundgarden, Motorhead, Mastodon, Bad Company, Fear Factory, Ugly Kid Joe, and even Sebastian Bach. To show they aren’t just interested in the more mainstream metal and that they also have a taste for the darker stuff the Swedish Rock Festival also welcomed Cannibal Corpse, King Diamond and a slew of Swedish death metal.

Download Festival

You can find a slew of videos circulating online from the weekend festival. Also over the weekend there was the Download Festival in the UK. The three-day festival welcomed Metallica, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Lamb of God, Rise Against, Killswitch Engage, Hellyeah, Theory of a Deadman, Shinedown, Halestorm and even Cory Taylor did a little bit of time on the stage by himself. There’s video online of Taylor hooking up with Lizzy Hale to perform a cover of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long.”  Wonder what happened afterwards backstage.

Movie update

In other non-festival news—Rob Zombie says that his film, Lords of Salem is not ready yet. The horror director told his Facebook followers that it’s not done, he had to take a break for the Megadeth tour and he’ll get back to it in July. So, get off his case!

In prison

It’s not a life sentence, but Metallica did their time in prison … and there’s video (here, here and here)! The band performed their self-titled 1991 EP known as The Black Album backwards in Horsens, Denmark at the Statsfængsel prison. The prison was transformed into an entertainment venue after it closed down in 2006. Metallica currently is on a European trek where they eventually plan to film a concert in 3D. The band has revealed that the 3D movie will be a storyline mixed with live concert footage. No word yet on its eventual release.

Concert video out soon

The first-ever commercially available and band-sanctioned live concert video of Stone Temple Pilots will be released later this month. The cool thing is some of you may be in it! Details revealed that the video is from the March 2010 performance at The Riviera in Chicago. The high-def feature will be released June 26th. The band plans to kick off another tour September 1st to coincide with the 20th anniversary of their debut album Core.

They took his bling

So how much jewelry can a rock star carry around while traveling? Apparently it can be at least $200,000. That’s how much police say Guns N’ Roses front man Axl Rose reported being stolen in Paris this week. Police say that Rose is pretty pissed that three gold and diamond necklaces were stolen during a private party. Rose was not wearing the necklaces at the time, according to reports. Note to self: bling is overrated.

Moonlighting

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is set to moonlight as an actor, but before he does he’s gonna have to get a serious ab workout. It’s reported in the Hollywood Reporter that Hawkins has been cast as Iggy Pop in a new movie about the infamous New York club CBGB. The film is expected to start shooting this month in Savannah, Georgia. The film crew will eventually make it up to New York to continue the shoot. No word yet on what other rock star cameos there’ll be. We’ll keep you posted.

In theaters

Haven’t been able to make it to a Linkin Park concert in a while? No worries … they’re coming to a theater near you. The band will be showing a recent Berlin concert in theaters in three weeks. But it’s only gonna air in theaters one night … June 25th. Of course, it’s all an effort to promote their new album Living Things which comes out the following day. To find a theater playing the concert, check out the website FathomEvents.com.

Online videos

A couple of videos to tell you about: Brett Michaels has released the video for “Get Your Rock On.” Also, Sebastian Bach’s video for “I’m Alive” is also available online. And, if you’ve been keeping up, you’ll notice the fourth teaser trailer for Slipknot’s Antennas To Hell has been released.

Knotfest

It’s their own kind of festival and they will do what they want—even if that means only having two dates. Slipknot is planning Knotfest, featuring Slipknot, Deftones, Serj Tankian, Lamb of God and others. There are only two shows planned. One in Council Bluffs, Iowa August 17th and the other outside Minneapolis August 18th. Of course the lineup is pretty heavy and worth the trek, but something else the festival will feature: nightmarish stilt-walkers, fire-breathers, junkyard car drum circles and amusement park rides. Hopefully this turns into an annual tradition that has expanded dates in the years to come … because that just sounds bad ass! You can get more info at knotfest.com.

Rise Above Fest

There’s another fest that may interest you. Seether’s Shawn Morgan has formed a festival that will raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. It’s an important issue for Morgan because his brother killed himself five years ago. The Rise Above Fest will feature Seether, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd and Black Stone Cherry for one show in New Hampshire September 3rd. It's all (almost all) on tape ... and online

Besides the leaking of classified information—being able to watch full pro-shot videos of some of your favorite bands online just hours after they perform in far off countries is the next best thing the Internet has to offer. If you were unable to make it down to Rock AM Ring in Germany over the weekend, I don’t blame you. Online right now are some performances from Marilyn Manson. Also circulating online is the full two-hour performance of Metallica at Rock AM Ring. One of the great things about the Metallica performance is they played their entire Black Album in front of a live audience.

In studio

Stone Sour has tapped Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan to be on the next album. But don’t fret children; once Corey Taylor is done with that album, he’s set to head into the studio with Slipknot early next year. Meanwhile, a pic posted online shows some action in the studio where Skid Row’s Bolan laid down the first bass tracks. Expect new Stone Sour out sometime in October.

Releasing videos tomorrow

Speaking Skit Row, former front man Sebastian Bach will be battling with Bret Michaels for attention this week as both artists debut videos of their projects. Bach will release a video for “I’m Still Alive” today. Michaels will release a video for “Get Your Rock On” Tomorrow.

SOHO this weekend

Tonight and tomorrow, downtown Springfield will be graced with the 8th SOHO Music Festival. Over twenty bands will take to the stage over two days by the Old State Capital Plaza. Some of the bands featured during SOHO are Micah Walk, The Station, Dog of Panic, The Legendary Clampetts and more. You can check out the whole lineup on our sister station’s website Alice.fm. There’ll be food, drinks from Coors Light, vendors and a bunch of music fans. Plus the weather is going to be top notch. SOHO was threatened in early May with Springfield Mayor Mike Houston wanting to put a 9:30 curfew for amplified music. An outpouring of support from the community got the mayor to reverse his decision. So lets get out there and make some noise to show the mayor that the Springfield-area loves live music—even after 9:30 at night! All the proceeds for SOHO go towards the Mini O’Bierne Crisis Nursery.
