Madness Comes To Town, Manson Slams Idol & Jane's Addiction Plans New Album

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Carnival of Madness
TONIGHT AT THE PCCC! BE THERE!

Madness Comes To Town

Tonight’s the night that Madness comes to town! Springfield’s concert leader, 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station, presents the Carnival of Madness! The tour is not only stopping here in Springfield—they’re kicking off their tour from the capital city! The Prairie Capital Convention Center will play host to New Medicine, Cavo, Halestorm, Chevelle and Evanescence! Be sure to be tuned in throughout the day for exclusive updates and interviews from some of the bands. Established in 2010, the tour consists of 23 dates across the county. Let’s be sure to pack the convention center to send the tour off in fine style.

Manson Slams Idol

Someone had to say it! Shirley Manson from Garbage says she’s found a fatal flaw in the popular TV show “American Idol.” She says they create the idea that good voices make great artists. Manson says that she was always into the Patti Smith’s or the Chrissie Hyndes of the world who are the glitz and glam-“Idol” types. She also says that some of the world’s biggest artists today would fail miserably at reality contest like “Idol.”

Jane's Addiction Plans New Album

Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Ferrell says the band will be heading to the studio in the next six months to cut a new album. Fans had to wait a long eight years between albums before they got last years The Great Escape Artist. Now fans don't have to wait nearly as long. Ferrell says that once the band gets off the road, they’ll head directly for the studio.

Billy Joe to mentor, Uncle Al collapses, & Tomorrow's Madness

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Billy Joe to mentor

Another rock star has been tapped to play a role a nationally televised talent show—and it’s just in time for a release of Green Day’s trilogy. Bill Joe Armstrong is joining Christina Aguilera as a mentor for the upcoming season of “The Voice.” The Green Day front man says he’s a fan of the show and that working with everyone will be a lot of fun. They begin taping Wednesday. Green Day has three albums coming out later this year and early next year. iUno! Is due out September 25th with iDos! and iTre! following the months after that. The band also plans two documentaries to show the history of the band and also the making of the trilogy.

Uncle Al!
Uncle Al!

Uncle Al collapses

Industrial metal godfather Al Jourgensen is serving some time in a hospital after collapsing on a stage in Paris Friday. Ministry managers say doctors diagnosed Uncle Al with “a full-system collapse due to extreme dehydration and heat exhaustion intensified by the lack of ventilation on stage.” Was he on drugs? His managers say he had no narcotics in his system but he was drinking. They say his blood alcohol level was “well below normal.” The band plans to finish their European tour. Ministry was just in Chicago last month with their tour supporting the album Relapse.

Tomorrow's Madness

We’re revving up for The Carnival Of Madness tour to kick off in Springfield Tuesday. The capital city will welcome Evanescence, Chevelle, Halestorm, Cavo, & New Medicine at the Prairie Capital Convention Center. Tickets are on sale now at the PCCC Box Office or through Ticketmaster.

Staind's Live DVD Details, Lamb of God & Dethklok Cancel Tour & Seriously Hot Metal Band

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Staind's Live DVD Details

After taking a break from performing live, Staind played their first show out and recorded it for a DVD/CD release. Titled Live From Mohegan Sun, the band says they were thrown into the fire. Front man Aaron Lewis says that Staind never really “had the opportunity to get back on the bicycle and remember how to ride,” before they recorded the show. It’s not that they couldn’t rehearse, the band says that’s just how the schedule worked out. As for some of the banter back and forth on stage—don’t expect to see that on Staind’s August 14th DVD/CD release. However, if you want to hear Aaron Lewis talk in-between songs, you’ll be able to do that when he performs his country set at the Illinois State Fair August 10th.

Lamb of God & Dethklok cancel tour

This was a given, considering Randy Blythe is still held up in a Prague jail--Lamb of God and Dethklok have called off their upcoming tour. Blythe was arrested in the death of a fan that was thrown off a Czech Republic stage in 2010 and died two weeks later. He was charged with contributing to the fan’s death by pushing him off stage. There’s still no word on a bond or a even a trial. With things so uncertain, both Lamb of God and Dethklok still plan to take to the road in the future—even if it’s separate tours.

Seriously hot metal band

They call it Slut Metal, and the group the Butcher Babies knows how to keep it hot. Go watch a five minute recap of their UK tour online featuring a couple of playboy bunnies on stage screaming their guts out. Seriously … hot! The Butcher Babies will be in St. Louis at Pops August 12th and Bloomington at the Castle Theater August 14th.

Studio Time for Metallica & Drowning Pool Gets Yet Another Singer

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Metal-fucking-tallica

Studio time for Metallica

After working with Lou Reed on the widely criticized Lulu collaboration and after touring around the world several times over … PLUS wrapping up a 3D film project, Metallica says they are now going to focus on writing new music. They’re scheduled to enter the studio sometime this September with a new album out next year. When? That’s anyone’s guess right now. One important note—The new Metallica album wouldn’t be under Warner Music where Metallica has been making records since 1984. Death Magnetic was the last album with Warner. A forthcoming attempt will make that album number 10 for the band and could possibly be completely independently released by the band.

Band gets yet another singer

Jasen Mareno
Jaseen Mareno

Drowning Pool appears certain that they’ve found a new and permanent singer for the band. The band tapped Jasen Moreno from the Texas band The Suicide Hook to front Drowning Pool—a band that has already gone through three singers in their storied existence. Drowning Pool’s first singer, Dave Williams, was found dead on the band’s tour bus in 2002 from an undiagnosed heart condition. The band then tried out Jason Jones—but ended that relationship in 2004 because of irreconcilable differences. Then they brought on Ryan McCombs who was with the band from 2006 up until last year. McCombs left the band to get back with SOiL. Expect a new Drowning Pool album with the newly tapped Jasen Moreno sometime next year.

Lebonte Bears Arms, Hiring Our Heroes Donation, Deep Purple Tribute & Slipknot App

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Lebonte bears arms

Phil Labonte talks about the right to keep and bear arms in Alternative Press
Phil Labonte talks about the right to keep and bear arms in Alternative Press

All That Remains’ front man is joining an echo of Second Amendment backers in declaring his right to bear arms. An article that Phil Labonte wrote for Alternative Press was submitted before the massacre in Colorado last week. He has since revised his comments, though he still stands behind his support for an armed public. He just better not bear arms here in Illinois, or else the strong arm of the law will smack him down. In the article he also says we live in a police state and slams the TSA, Patriot Act and the recent passage of the National Defense Authoriaztion Act. That’s my kinda guy!

Hiring Our Heroes donation

I don’t care who you are … $250,000 is a lot of money! That’s how much Kiss and Motley Crue donated to help keep military veterans employed. They presented a check last week to the Hiring Our Heroes program, which helps place vets and their spouses in secure jobs. Plus, Kiss and The Crue hired on an army Vet as a roadie for their current tour.

Deep Purple tribute

There’s a massive compilation coming out and it’s a tribute to Deep Purple with some pretty big names on the track list. Re-machined: A Tribute To Machine Head one of Deep Purples iconic albums will feature Metallica, Black Label Society, Chickenfoot, Iron Maiden, and a bunch of others working together to show their respect. The disc will be part of a fanpack through Classic Rock magazine due out September 4th.

Slipknot app

In anticipation of Slipknot’s Antennas To Hell best of, the band released their smart-phone app “Wear The Mask.” Find it in your app store.  Watch a video here.

Korn Added to ShipRocked, Primus' Psychedelic Tour, & City of Fire Streams Tunes

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Korn added to ShipRocked

Korn

Korn will have to get their sea legs ready as they’ve been added to co-headline ShipRocked. Last year’s ShipRocked cruise featured Jonathan Davis’ DJ set and he says the whole thing was great so he helped spur on Korn’s appearance this year. The heavy metal cruise will feature other heavyweights of rock including Godsmack, P.O.D., Five Finger Death Punch, Sevendust, Filter, Fuel, Black Stone Cherry, Helmet and others. Voyagers will set out to sea November 27th from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the Bahamas and then back. If the boat is rockin’, it’s more than likely ShipRocked! Get details online at GetShipRocked.com.

Primus' psychedelic tour

Primus is taking to the road this fall to support their latest attempt Green Naugahyde. Les Claypool and the band say it’s “the first-ever traveling 3D-enhanced live musical performance” with a “one-of-a-kind psychedelic experience.” That sounds enticing! Aside from feeling like you’re tripping at the show, the band also plans to play two sets per evening, so you’ll get a double dose of Primus. More details on the upcoming tour will be released July 30th.

City of Fire streams tunes

A side project from the front man of Fear Factory has a few new song available to stream online. City of Fire is made up of Fear Factory’s Burton C. Bell, 3 Inches of Blood’s Byron Stroud, Terry Murray and Bob Wagner. You can stream “Deliver Me,” “Carve Your Name,” “Bad Motivator,” and “Rain” on the band’s Facebook page. A City of Fire album is expected out later this year.

Reznor Scores Video Game, & 3 Doors DUI

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Reznor Scores Video Game

Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor is not new to scoring music for first-person shooters. Having just come off a stint writing scores for The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, he’ll now lend his talents to the forthcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II. In a behind the scenes featurette talking with game developers, Reznor says

“I look at video games as a true art form. The chance to be involved in something like this is exciting to me. I feel it’s as ever bit viable as film work or music or anything else. The games have gotten more intense and more realistic, more engrossing and deeper. Video Game Culture has expanded into the largest form of entertainment.”

This isn’t Reznor’s first rodeo. Back in 1996 he scored the music for the groundbreaking Quake first-person shooter. Call of Duty: Black Ops II comes out November 11th this year.  Watch the featurette here:

3 Doors DUI

It’s a bit of a set back for 3 Doors Down as they work on their new album. Bassist Todd Harrell was arrested for DUI Thursday morning in Mississippi. A police report indicates that Harrell failed to stop at an intersection and then collided with a pickup truck. He was charged with DUI and not wearing his seat belt. Police say that Harrell consented to a blood test and the toxicology report is pending.

Iconic Tour Kicks Off Today, Iconic Studio Documentary & Flea Solo Album

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

KISS & Crue Together Forever!
... sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S. i-n-g

Iconic tour kicks off today

It’s a rock star heavy weight bout and Nikki Sixx says the winners are the audience as Kiss and Motley Cruet take to the road this summer. That tour kicks off today.  Expect nothing but hits and what Sixx says is a bombastic live performance from beginning to end. The band’s will be at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater August 27th and up in Tinley Park September 9th.

Iconic studio documentary

Though the release date has not yet been set, the preview (see video below) has been posted of Dave Grohls forthcoming documentary. The Foo Fighters’ front man’s directorial debut is about the studio his former band Nirvana recorded their 1991 album Nevermind. Featured in the preview are a slew of artists who have recorded in the Sound City Studios. With names like Trent Reznor, Butch Vig, Tom Petty, John Fogerty, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and others, this is going to be one intense feature. We’re also expecting a huge collaboration of a some big artists recording on Sound City’s iconic sound board. We’ll let you know when the film will be released.

Flea solo album

Flea is taking a reprieve from The Red Hot Chili Peppers to release a solo album he says will help out charity. The bassist notified fans this week via Twitter that Helen Burns will help out musical education programs for school-aged kids. What’s the album gonna be like? Flea says it will be “trippy freakout,” whatever the hell that means.

Size Does Matter, Still Years Away & Writing New Album

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Size does matter

How do you know your one of the biggest rock acts in the world? When the festival your playing has to increase the size of the stage your playing. That’s the case with Iron Maiden. Reports indicate that Rock Fest organizers are planning to increase the main stage for Maiden’s Saturday night performance in Wisconsin. Something else that’s new to Rock Fest—cell phone charging stations. That way you can take pics of chicks in bikinis throughout the day and still re-up the juice to get pics and video of the concert! Rock Fest is a four day event in Wisconsin starting today and includes headliners Shinedown, Godsmack, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, just to name a few.

Still years away

Corey Taylor
Corey Taylor pic taken from Blabbermouth.net

So, just how much longer will us maggots have to wait for a new Slipknot album? Front man Corey Taylor says it could still be a couple of years. In an interview on a Canadian radio station, Taylor said that the band is still coping with the death of bassist Paul Gray. Gray passed away in 2010. Taylor said that there is still a bit of denial from the band and it won’t really sink in until they all head back to the studio. In the meantime, he says that there are some demos floating around but he wants to be sure that everyone in the band has input and that they’re gonna get the music together first before heading into the studio.

Writing new album

Speaking of new albums—word has it that Korn will begin writing their next attempt. Jonathan Davis tells Billboard.com that the band is itching to get a follow up to last year’s The Path of Totality.

HELLYEAH's Chad Gray: Metal Community is a Band of Brothers

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Use the player above to hear Chad Gray interviewed by Dawg. Download it here.

The metal community, both fans and musicians, are a band of brothers—but things have changed recently that may strain that relationship. Hellyeah’s album Band of Brothers dropped in stores Tuesday and Dawg was able to have a chat with front man Chad Gray about the new album, rock-stardom and even the news of Randy Blythe being held in a Prague jail. The Decatur native says the relationship between the fans and rockers has changed in the past few years ever since the on-stage shooting of Dimebag Darrell, so metal musicians do have some reservations about fans getting too close.

“I remember back in the day, well actually going to see Pantera, like went down and saw them in St. Louis. I remember Phil saying ‘our stage is your stage.’ I mean there were probably 20 to 25 people on stage all the time. It’s just with all the stuff that’s happening, I mean everything with Dime, and everything like that, you just can’t really have that anymore. Have people just gotten crazier? I mean seriously.”

Gray says that the album title and title track Band of Brothers is about the relationship that metal fans have and the universal symbol of the rock horns. He also talked about local bands and how they can still make it with the help of the internet--but they better be good at what they do. Download the podcast of Dawg's chat with Chad Grey and be sure to get the album today!

3D Lyric Video, Concept to be a Movie, & He'll Die Eventually

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

3D lyric video

Green Day's "Oh Love" 3D Lyric Video

What better way to promote your new song than with a 3D video of the lyrics? That’s what Green Day has done with their new tune “Oh Love,” which is available at the band’s website streaming. The song will be featured on the album ¡Uno! due out later this year. It’s the first album of a trilogy expected through the rest of the year and early 2013. Request the song today.

Concept to be a movie

What do Coheed and Cambria and Mark Wahlberg have in common? Apparently the band and the actor-turned director are hooking up to bring Coheed and Cambria’s concept albums to the big screen. Armory Wars is a story about a vicious supernatural dictator and a family that has the key to liberate the entire world. It’s already a book titled Year of the Black Rainbow, which was also the title of Coheed and Cambria’s 2010 album. There’s no word on when production for the movie will begin, but we’ll keep you posted.

He'll die eventually

The man who killed Dave Navarro’s mother won’t get the death penalty. The California Supreme Court handed down that ruling this week. John Riccardi was convicted of killing his girlfriend Connie Navarro and her friend, Sue Jory, in 1983. Riccardi was arrested 8 years after the fact because of “America’s Most Wanted”. Instead of the death penalty, Riccardi will likely serve a life sentence, so he’s gonna die in prison regardless.

Twins of Evil Tour, Blythe Saga Continues, & London Sound Curfew

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Twins of Evil Tour

Tour poster for Twins of Evil Tour
Tour poster for Twins of Evil Tour

For the first time in their careers, shock rock meets horror rock with the planned tour of duel headliners Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. They promise an experience full of debauchery, ghoulish images, and an overall full-out assault on all the senses. To make the tour more sinister, Korn’s Jonathan Davis will support the two acts with his live DJ set as an opener. The Twins of Evil Tour kicks off in September and will make its way to the Allstate Arena in Chicago October 11th. In a statement about the tour, Manson said people better “hide all the drugs and firearms,” he’s coming to town. I guess Manson won’t have to worry about the guns being hidden in Chicago, ‘cuz there’s a downright ban on taking firearms outside the house.

Blythe saga continues

As the story of Randy Blythe continues to drag on, fans and supporters of the Lamb of God front man are planning a vigil/rally outside the US Supreme Court Sunday July 22nd. Blythe remains in a Prague jail after being arrested several weeks ago on possible manslaughter charges in a case where a fan jumped up on stage and was thrown off. The fan died several weeks after that 2010 incident. It’s reported that there is another hearing for Blythe this Thursday. We’ll definitely keep you posted.

Sound curfew in London

Oh, and I try not to report on Bruce Springsteen, but he had his mic shut off in Hyde Park, London, Saturday night. Springsteen and Paul McCartney were jamming out and they were finishing up with “Twist and Shout” and the police shut ‘em down. Apparently the Mayor of London has a direct pipeline to Springfield Mayor Mike Houston’s office, because it’s reported the mics were shut off due to a sound curfew.

Tyler Ducks Out of Idol, Free Blythe Gets Louder & Here's To Geritol

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Steven Tyler bows out of American Idol
Steven Tyler bows out of American Idol

Tyler ducks out of Idol

He quits! The long saga of Steven Tyler on "American Idol" is over … finally. After all the crap that was stirred up when he joined up with the show, Aerosmith can now put this chapter of the band behind them. Tyler said that "Idol" was his mistress. We think of it as the red-headed step child that no one wants to take care of but for some reason keeps getting support (no offense meant for red-headed step children). But this is just another way for the band to get their new album in the forefront. Music From Another Dimension is expected out in November. Plus the band’s on tour, so doing a TV show makes it a bit difficult to squeeze in a sound-check. Good riddance, American Idol!

Free Blythe gets louder

Lamb of God fans say the story of Randy Blythe being held in a Czech Republic jail is not a story about a metal band—it’s a story about an American who is being wrongfully incarcerated in a foreign land. Blythe is charged in the death of a fan that jumped on stage multiple times during a Lamb of God show in 2010. The final time the fan jumped on stage, Blythe threw him off. The fan died several weeks later from a head injury. Fans say people should get this issue out front by calling radio stations, writing newspapers, calling the US Embassy in Prague and even Tweeting about the ordeal.  There's even a petition at the White House website. The US State Department has no comment about the case.

Day-In-The-Life Documentary Planned & Taylor Passes Out

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Day-in-the-life documentary planned

Green Day plans on releasing two different documentaries about the lifestyles of rock and roll. The first film, expected early next year, will focus on their forthcoming trilogy albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, & ¡Tre!. The second documentary will feature footage and stories from the band’s earlier years. Front man Billy Joe Armstrong says that it’s not going to be some lame documentary where the band is sitting in front of a fireplace talking about how they started. He says that it’s gonna be a day in the life type of documentary where the footage tells the story. The first single from ¡Uno! titled “Oh Love” will be released on the radio and streaming on Green Day’s website this Monday. Be listening!

Fan-shot video of Taylor passing out ... Moment of truth at around time marker 1:50

Taylor passes out

Maybe wearing a mask on stage while screaming in the blistering heat of the summer months isn’t the best way to stay conscious. Slipknot front man Corey Taylor passed out during the final song of the band’s performance down in Texas. He tweeted that he’s fine, just got a bit overheated. Also on the Slipknot front, the band’s planned Knotfest later this year will be live streamed, pay-per-view. You can get details online at EventViewLive.com. You’ll want to lock in your price at $14.95 for the August 18th live-stream because a week before the show, it jumps up to $19.95. Knotfest is a two-day concert event Summerset, Wisconsin. The live-stream will feature on and off-stage shenanigans. Don’t miss it!

Love sued ... again

Just as the sun rises every morning, Courtney Love gets sued by a former assistant. This time it’s a woman who is suing for unpaid wages. She also says that Love asked here to hire a hacker to falsify legal letters. The hacker was meant to change various records for some businesses that Love either owned or thought she owned. Former assistant Jessica Labrie says that all of Love’s requests gave her headaches, insomnia and other medical issues.

Comic nerds at this year’s Comic Con in California will get a special treat—Kirk Hammet from Metallica will be a featured guest. The lead guitarist for arguably the largest metal band in all of history is planning on promoting his new coffee table horror book that highlights all of his own personal horror memorabilia. Hammet says he’ll sign some cool predetermined thingies. He’ll be out there July 13th, so if you’re in the area of San Diego, be sure to stop by. He’s only gonna be there for an hour. Oh, and the book is titled Too Much Horror Business—The Kirk Hammet Collection.

Slash star

It’s a nice gesture! But Slash made the big times years ago—it’s not like he needed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to prove that to him, but he got it anyways. Slash was the 2,473rd star, which was unveiled Tuesday. Fans who showed up rivaled the size of when Paul McCartney or Shakira were inducted with a plaque on a sidewalk. Congrats, Slash.

Drunken Golf Cart Hijinx & New Music Tuesday

Drunken Golf Cart Hijinx

Drummer “Wild” Mick Brown (Dokken, Lynch Mob, Ted Nugent) was arrested Sunday, July 8 after allegedly stealing a golf cart and driving it recklessly while under the influence in Bangor, Maine.  Mick is currently playing drums for Ted Nugent, who is on tour with REO Speedwagon and Styx. "Wild" Mick Brown

Reportedly, Brown stole a golf cart, was intoxicated and driving it recklessly around the Bangor Waterfront Pavilion on the foot path... Mick then picked up two girls and continued the joy ride… and stiff-armed a security guard as they tried to stop the cart. He was then physically removed from stolen golf cart and was arrested. No damage was reported to the cart although two traffic cones were damaged, one significantly!

Mick Brown, 55, of Cave Creek, Arizona, was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger, theft and assault. He was released on $4,000 bail with a court date set for August 15.

This is what happens when rock drummers get bored while on tour opening for bands like REO Speedwagon and Styx.  Can you blame him?
#FreeMickBrown

New Music Tuesday

This week you can find new music from P.O.D. Murdered Love, Serj Tankian Harakiri, and a new live set from Staind Live from Mohegan Sun (the DVD & Blu-Ray will be out August 14th).

Fans: Free Blythe, Static Sounds Off & Orgy Back At It

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Fans: Free Blythe

Randy Blythe, the jailed Lamb of God front man, remains behind bars in the Czech Republic, and that has fans and colleagues calling for his release. Long story short, Blythe is charged in the death of a concertgoer who jumped on stage several times. The last time the guy jumped on stage Blythe pushed him away and dude fell off the stage and died about a month later. That was several years ago. Blythe was arrested a couple of weeks ago. Early yesterday a hundred Lamb of God fans gathered for a vigil in Virginia. Lamb of God guitarist Willie Adler attended and said it really brings the story home. The band isn’t talking too much about the whole deal but Adler’s father-in-law provided some more details. He said that the whole band was stopped at a Prague airport where armed forces arrested everyone. After a while the US embassy was able to free everyone except for Blythe.

NBC12.com - Richmond, VA News, Weather, Traffic

Static sounds off

Static-X front man Wayne Static is upset about Blythe’s detainment. He’s just the most recent artist to come out in support of Blythe. Static says that it’s “f**ked up,” and “s**t happens” and that it was “weird that they were trying to pin it on him.” Meanwhile Static-X has a new lineup. Static says that the new lineup has been working to resurrect old-school Static-X by rehearsing the first two albums. A new tour is forthcoming.

Orgy back at it

Also forthcoming is a new Orgy album. The band is working in the studio to bring their first album since 2004’s Punk Statik Paranoia. Expect that out sometime later this year or early in 2013.

Puddle of Cocaine, Wylde Child & Going Prime-time

Wes Scantlin
Wes Scantlin's smirk at a plea deal

Puddle of cocaine

Remember Wes Scantlin? He’s the front man for Puddle of Mudd—who have a key to the city of Springfield—well, he pleaded guilty to felony cocaine possession Tuesday in Los Angeles. Scantlin was arrested earlier this year after being pulled over. He was cited for driving without a license and for having a “controlled substance.” The license charge was dropped in a plea deal. He may not do jail time if he completes a drug counseling program.

Wylde child

Zakk Wylde has a new son and the name won’t surprise you. Wylde named the new boy Sabbath. His wife, Barbaranne, gave birth to the healthy baby boy Wednesday night and naturally Wylde took to Facebook to announce it. Wylde’s other child also has a rockin’ name—Hendrix. All together, the Wylde’s have four kids now. The other two don’t really have rockin’ names.

Going prime-time

Jenn Arroyo
Jenn Arroyo will be in "Big Brother"

Jenn Arroyo—You may not know who she is but if you’re a fan of CBS’s reality show “Big Brother” then you’ll see her real soon. The former Kitty Bassist will join the show for the next installment. Not familiar with the show? Well, it pits 12 people together in a house with 53 cameras and 98 microphones recording every move in the day. Arroyo says her stint with Kitty will give her the necessary grit to make it through the show on top. Some other people she’ll go up against include a bartender, a chef, a model, a nurse and the owner of a spray tan company. You’ll be able to get inside the house next Thursday.

They Lost Their Keys, Top of the Charts, Music Program, & Gotta Wear Shades

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

They lost their keys

Dave Grohl isn't sure about getting big drumsticks ...

Forget about that key to the city! Warren, Ohio, is gonna hook Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl with a pair of huge drumsticks. The area newspaper reports that the city is handing over a pair of 900-pound drumsticks Saturday. They even put tattoos similar to what Grohl has on his arms up and down the sticks. Grohl was born in Warren and the city wants to honor him with the sticks and also an alley. The sticks will be displayed at the Warren Amphitheater this year and then after the concert season they’ll be moved to Dave Grohl Alley. It’s still not clear if Grohl will be at the unveiling ceremony this weekend.

Top of the charts

Linkin Park grabed the top spot this week on the Billboard charts. They barely beat out mom-rockers Maroon 5. The numbers were pretty huge. Living Things, the band’s 5th studio album, sold 223,000 copies in it’s first week of sales.

Music program

Speaking of Linkin Park—they’re working with Dell to release a program that will help users create music. Surely you’ve picked up on the increasing Electronica influence in their music over the years—well now you’ll be able to do the same type of stuff with some canned LP sounds and loops. Awesome! That’s all we need is a bunch of LP posers uploading their music to SoundCloud.

Hetfield's shades

Gotta wear shades

Speaking of (nice segue, Bishop) putting out a line of products—Metallica’s James Hetfield is looking cool with his new brand of sunglasses. They’re available now at Metallica’s website for a whopping $220.

Free Blythe & Who Needs an Appendix Anyway?

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Free Blythe

Fan made poster supporting the release of Randy Blythe

A ton of artists are coming to the support of Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe. Blythe is held up in the Czech Republic after a fan that rushed him three times on stage died after falling off the stage when Blythe pushed him. That happened in 2010. Blythe was arrested last week. Artists who remember all too clearly the on-stage shooting death of Dimebag Darrel are coming to Blythe’s defense saying that people should expect entertainers on-stage to put up a defense if getting rushed by “fans.” Some who’ve come out in support include Disturbed’s David Draiman, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Slash, Sebastian Bach, members of DevilDriver, Lacuna Coil, Hatebreed and others. Even the front man of Gwar is sounding the alarm and criticizing the American media for remaining silent on this whole deal. The victim from the 2010 incident died of a brain hemorrhage 14 days after falling off stage. Blythe could get up to 10 years in prison and had to post $200,000 bail. He remains in a Czech Republic prison.

Who needs an appendix anyway?

Meanwhile, Slipknot’s Jim Root had a bit of a medical emergency but he’s alright. His stupid appendix burst … and he didn’t know it. The band says that Root has been seriously sick for a couple of weeks and then went to the hospital where doctors told him the two-week old pain was from a burst appendix. Dude, that could have killed you! Of course surgery must happen. You don’t just poop that out. Slipknot plans on continuing their tour and will welcome Root back when he’s able to kick ass on stage again.

Brutal Lamb of God Show, Headed to the Studio, Going Country, It's Just a Game

Brutal Lamb of God show

Lamb of God's Randy Blythe in court

We’ll get more details later today from Lamb of God about the arrest of their singer Randy Blythe. Apparently a Lamb of God fan in the Czech Republic died back in 2010 after he jumped a barricade and rushed Blythe three times during a show. A statement from the band’s manager says that the third time the fan rushed Blythe, security was unable to stop him and Blythe ended up pushing dude who then fell off the stage and hit his head. Blythe was arrested Wednesday and is charged with causing bodily harm resulting in death. Police have remained mum.

Headed to the studio

Sevendust is gearing up to get back into the studio. A Twitter message from the band simply said “SEPT 5TH!!!! STUDIO”. The band recently had a switch-up of players welcoming on three members of a Chicago area band. (It's Nonpoint that had the band switchup taking on new members from a Chicago area band.)

Goin' country

It’s not gonna be a rock album that Aaron Lewis releases next. Surely you’ll be able to get a taste of his new album when he’s at the State Fair next month. Shortly after his appearance at the Grandstand with country music star Eric Church, Lewis will release the new full-length country album The Road. Expect that to hit stores September 11th.

It's just a game

Meanwhile, get your plastic guitars, drum pads and crappy microphones out and send out the invites to your friends. Rock Band 3 is making available tunes from All American Rejects and Rise Against. Go to the appropriate store to download those tracks.
