The Casting Couch, Van Halen Gut Sick, & Hagar Day in Roseville

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

The casting couch

Calling all extras! Stone Sour wants you! Two new videos being planned for the tunes “Gone Sovereign” and “Absolute Zero” are off the upcoming concept album House of Gold and Bones. Front man Corey Taylor said on Twitter this week “The band vid is in the works- there will be a fan casting call once we figure out where we're going to film it. A performance vid with 1-2,000 fans. Gonna be sick as f**k.” You can follow Corey on Twitter to get all the updates. The band released a nearly 8-minute video featuring the two songs and some black-and-white graphics and lyrics to the tunes “Gone Sovereign” and “Absolute Zero.” You can expect to pick up the album House of Gold and Bones October 23rd.

Van Halen gut sick

Could it be a symptom of years of partying and old age? Eddie Van Halen had some problems with his gutty works that required emergency surgery. Doctors found inflamed pouches in his intestines that they took a knife to. Van Halen is expected to recover fully but it could be months. A tour in Japan in November has been postponed.

Hagar day in Roseville

Sammy Hagar will be honored in Roseville, California, just outside Sacramento. City Officials are gonna hook the rocker up with a surprise gift September 15th and also name that day Sammy Hagar Day. Hagar plans on opening up a new restaurant called Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill in Roseville.

Legal Defense Fund, Give Them Permission, Biography out October

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Blythe in court

Legal defense fund

Looking to get some great schwag and also help out a legal defense fund? Lamb of God is selling off a ton of memorabilia to help pay off front man Randy Blythe’s legal bills. He’s accused of pushing a fan off stage back in 2010. That fan died days afterwards and Blythe was arrested in Prague, held for weeks and later released on bail. He says he’ll head back to Prague to stand trial and clear his name, but that’s gonna cost money! On eBay, the band has put up for sale some equipment they’ve used on stage. Other rockers have contributed including Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson, Slash and Five Finger Death Punch.

Give them permission

Linkin Park is getting all Big Brother on us. They’re using your Facebook photos in their new music video. You have to give them permission, but still it’s kinda creepy. If you’re interested in having your personal photos from Facebook used in their video for “Lost in the Echo,” you need to go to the website LostInTheEcho.com and give them Facebook permissions. The video features some dude in a post-apocalyptic world where he passes a ton of Facebook photos. There’s a preview of the video (without all the photos) online. Linkin Park is currently on the Honda Civic Tour with Incubus.

Biography out October

Slash is ready to release a biography about his rock star life. The book, titled Slash: An Intimate Portrait, and written by Richard Bienstock should hit shelves sometime in October. There will be stories and about 100 unpublished photos all centered around Slash.

Who's Who of Rich Drummers, Foo Fighters to Take Break, Slash Saw What?

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Who's who of rich drummers

Dave Grohl as Richy Rich
Dave Grohl as Richy Rich

So who are the richest drummers in the world? It’s a burning question that we just gotta have the answer to, right? Some crack website called CelebrityNetWorth.com has compiled the list of the most wealthy drummers and topping the rocker list is Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl—He comes in at $225 million. Surprisingly, Grohl beat out Metallica’s Lars Ulrich who came in at $175 million in net worth and then Red Hot Chili Peppers Chad Smith at $90 million. There are few others to mention like Blink 182’s Travis Barker, Van Halen’s drummer, Green Day’s drummer and Grohl’s buddy, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Foo Fighters to take break

Speaking of Foo Fighters, over the weekend Dave Grohl told a crowd in Reading, England, that show would be the last show for a long time. Well, it may not be their last show, but apparently it is the last show in England. An official close to the band says that Foo Fighters have four show booked in the states and then they’ll take a break after that.

Slash saw what?

Talk about being born into the rock star life! In an interview with an Australian radio station Slash shared a childhood story where he saw something that most kids would require years of therapy for—at the age of 8 he walked in on his mom in her birthday suit with David Bowie. Ola Hudson was a costume designer for Bowie back in the 70s. Slash said his perspective was limited at the time but the two were always together with a bunch of other people. Now he has a better idea of what was going on and says he can imagine just how freeky it got. Instead of intense therapy, Slash picked up a guitar.

Tour dates announced, Nonpoint coming to Springfield, Static-X/Ill Niño coming to Bloomington

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Tour dates announced

Mark down these dates: October 18th and the 19th. That’s when Smashing Pumpkins will be in St. Louis and then Chicago. The band has announced their North American tour with 15 dates spanning across the country. October 18th they’ll be in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena and October 19th they’ll be in Chicago at the Allstate Arena. If their tour in Canada and Mexico is any indication, the band will be performing their entire Oceania album plus they’ll have a light show provided by Sean Evans who did the lights for Roger Waters’ The Wall tour. VIP tickets are available now that include a Q&A session plus access to a three-song backstage performance from the band. Get more details on that at SmashingPumpkins.com.

Elias Soriano of Nonpoint
Elias Soriano of Nonpoint

Nonpoint coming to Springfield

More dates you should mark down, especially for a kick ass show in Springfield, is Saturday, October 6th. That’s when Nonpoint will be in town at Boondocks, the new and improved venue taking over the old Dirty Bird, also known as Rockin’ Robin. That show will be just days before the new Nonpoint album drops. Taproot will also be on the bill, so it’s a pretty bad ass show right here in Springfield. You better support it!

Static-X/Ill Niño coming to Bloomington

In other tour news, Ill Niño will be in Bloomington at The Castle Theatre September 24th supporting Static X. We told you yesterday that Ill Niño will be releasing their new album Epidemia October 22nd.

Drop From Tour, Linkin Park is StormReady, New Album Coming

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Jacoby Shaddix
Jacoby Shaddix

Drop from tour

Papa Roach’s Jocoby Shaddox has a nodule on his vocal chord which means the band can’t perform … which means … they’ve had to pull off of the Uproar Festival. Last week we learned that the band canceled their Uproar appearance in Grand Rapids. Over the weekend it was revealed that Papa Roach had to pull out entirely because of Shaddox’s ongoing vocal issues--dude's gonna need surgery. There are plenty of bands on Uproar, so there’s no issue filling time, but Adelitas Way just so happened to be in the right place at the right time. They’re now on the main stage!

Linkin Park is StormReady

You’ve heard about being battle ready, but what about storm ready? Linkin Park is storm ready for their current tour … no really, they are like seriously officially storm ready. The National Weather Service has reviewed and approved the band’s emergency preparedness as StormReady. What this means is that the “tour's proactive approach to weather-related hazards” has them ready in the face of storms when performing concerts. The National Weather Service says that they are confident that Linkin Park will help set the trend for other tours to get StormReady designation. Linkin Park is currently out on tour with Incubus for the Honda Civic Tour.

New album coming

Ill Niňo has a new album on the way out and the band has just revealed the album titile, and release date. Expect to pick up the band’s sixth full-length attempt Epidemia October 22nd.

Pumpkins Tour, Seventh Time's a Charm & Cease and Desist

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Pumpkins tour

Smashing Pumpkins have announced a North American tour, but it’s not completely set in stone. A Thursday release from promoters in St. Louis confirms that Billy Corgan and his band will tour to support their latest album Oceania, hitting up St. Louis and Chicago. Dates for US shows have yet to be revealed, but Corgan and the crew just wrapped up dates in Canada and will be down in Mexico during most of October. That leads us to assume that Smashing Pumpkins will be back in the states in November and December. We’ll get you the details as soon as possible.

Chapman next to headlines
Chapman (1980) next to headlines

Seventh time's a charm?

It was his seventh time trying and it was his seventh time being denied. Confessed John Lennon killer Mark David Chapman went before a board this week in New York and the three member panel said no way! They say giving him release under certain conditions would “undermine respect for the law” since he committed a “heinous, unprovoked, violent, cold and calculated crime.” Chapman can try again in two years, where he will more than likely be denied. He shot John Lennon in 1980 just outside Lennon’s apartment and was sentenced to 20 years to life after pleading guilty.

Cease and desist

Rock stars telling politicos to stop using their music—it’s becoming just as common as elections themselves and the latest rocker to go after a politician is Dee Snider telling Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan’s campaign to stop playing the tune “We’re Not Gonna Take It” at political rallies. A Ryan spokesperson replied to Snider saying “We’re Not Gonna Play It, Anymore!”

Corgan's Writing a Book, Manson's Latest Video, & Ongoing Throat Issues

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Corgan's writing a book

Billy
Billy

Hey, readers! Listen up! Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan is writing a memoir, but if you’re looking for a tell-all book about Rock this isn’t the book for you. Corgan says he’s about three-fourths the way through with a focus on his spiritual evolution. Though his rock star life is a factor in his writing, and he’s had a lot of run ins with other powerful famous people, he won’t be giving any details about his famous friends. Well, he will share some stories, but all the names will be masked by pseudonyms. Keeping names secret isn’t just for their anonymity; Corgan says that it’s cheaper to keep their names out of it. There’s no word yet on when the book will be out. We’ll keep you posted.

Manson's latest video

Shock rocker Marilyn Manson has a new video out for the tune “Slo-Mo-Tion.” The second single from his latest album Born Villan. And anytime a video opens with a warning message that it may contain offensive imagery and not recommended for viewers under the age of 18—you know it’s gonna be good! The video contains a ton of makeup, crazy camera filters, blacklights, T ‘n A, and of course Twiggy and Manson getting’ all creepy with slo-motion video effects.  Watch the video below or follow this link.

Ongoing throat issues

Papa Roach had to cancel their appearance Tuesday up in Grand Rapids for the Uproar Festival because of front man Jacoby Shaddix’s ongoing vocal issues. P.O.D. stepped up from the second stage to the main stage to fill the slot. Shaddix recently told the media that he’s had some throat issues and he’s seeing a specialist.

Getting married

If there’s another reason for all you haters our there to grow your loathing for Nickleback’s Chad Kroeger, it’s this: The singer is now engaged to be married to Avril Lavigne. She’s no longer the young punky kid performing pop tunes for tweeners. She’s 27 now and Kroeger is 37, so there’s a bit of an age difference, but they’re both Canadian so that should make up for it, right? Avril was previously married to the front man of Sum 41 but got a divorce back in 2009. Kroeger has never been married. Reports indicate that Kroeger and Lavigne have been secretly dating for the past six months after they collaborated on a tune for a forthcoming Lavigne album. Shall we start taking bets on how long this union will last?

Pussy Riot hackers

Supporters of the Russian Punk band Pussy Riot have been attacking the website of the court that convicted and sentenced the group to two years behind bars. Hackers posted on the court’s website the band’s latest song ridiculing Russian Prez Vladimir Putin and calls for the band members’ release.

Single now available

Flyleaf is back on the scene with a new single. The tune called “New Horizons” is the title track for their forthcoming album and you can grab up the song on iTunes. There’s still no word on when the album will be dropping in stores but it’s expected sometime this fall.

Nearly 52,000 likes, 3,200 shares and over 2,600 comments—that’s all the social activity from one word posted to Queen’s of the Stone Age’s Facebook page. That one word? Recording. The only other detail posted was a picture showing the neck of a guitar with a pick in the strings bearing the logo of Queens of the Stone Age.

Angry Green Day

Speaking of Facebook--Just a month before iUno! hits shelves, Green Day has gone all cartoonish with the release of some new levels for “Angry Birds Friends” on Facebook. The social game will feature some pig-faces with likenesses of members of Green Day. The episode, which has ten levels, will also highlight the band’s new tune “Oh Love” and also the tune “Troublemaker.” Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong said that they’re all big fans of the game that mixes physics with slingshots and a host of different birds as projectiles launching at structures in hopes to knock them down. Armstrong says the game is so addicting. And it is! Now get out there and use the app, but please, don’t send me any app requests because I will block it and possibly de-friend you! Get more details online at GreenDay.AngryBirds.com.

Talkin' smack

Soundgarden’s reunion and forthcoming album is only to make money … that’s according to Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan. He made the statement philSTAR.com. Corgan said he’s a fan, but that Soundgarden and other 90s bands are just at it again for one more go with the till. Does that include Smashing Pumpkins? Soundgarden’s yet-to-be-named album, the first in 15 years, drops November 13th.

Pizza, Tools & The Black Keys, Up For Parole ... Again, & Bitter Sweet Cancellation

Pizza, Tools & The Black Keys

Remember the story where The Black Keys were going after Pizza Hut and Home Depot claiming the pizza joint and home improvement store were using the band’s music without their permission? Well, the two companies’ lawyers are fighting back. The Black Keys say that Pizza Hut used parts of “Gold on the Ceiling” to promote cheesy crust pizza and that Home Depot used parts of “Lonely Boy” to push power tools. The attorneys for the two companies filed documents denying the claims and also requesting that the band pay attorney fees if they win. This could get messy!

Up for parole ... again

Mark David Chapman's Mugshot
Mark David Chapman's Mugshot

Anytime the murderer of a music legend comes up for parole, it’s news! When a murderer comes is up for parole for the sixth time after being denied every time before that … it’s definitely news. John Lennon’s murderer Mark David Chapman (of course you’ve gotta say all three names) will be interviewed by a parole board as early as tomorrow and the decision could come by the end of the week. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in 1981 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. He’s been denied parole six times.

Bitter Sweet Cancellation

The cancellation of the first-ever Mayhem Cruise has some of the performers a bit confused. A cancelation announcement posted to the cruise’s website earlier this month simply said due to reasons beyond their control they had to cancel. Full refunds were given to people who purchased tickets and an added caveat, people who did purchase tickets, in 2013, they get a lifetime pass to Monster’s Rock Star Energy Mayhem Festival. That’s pretty sweet.

The group was charged with hooliganism and religious intolerance stemming from a performance where they went to Russia’s main cathedral and sang a prayer to Mother Mary condemning then Russian presidential candidate Vladimir Putin.

That was before the election earlier this year where Putin won.

The guilty verdict for the band Pussy Riot could lead to a seven year sentence.

Sentencing is expected to be announced later today.

Rockin' The Grandstand, Uproar Festival, This Weekend, & Canceled

What the Grandstand looks like dry and empty
What the Grandstand looks like dry and empty

Rockin' the Grandstand

Last night was rock night at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand. Adelitas Way, Theory of a Deadman and Creed played to a crowd of semi-soaked fans just hours after severe storms blew through. Because of the rain, the track was soaked so those with track tickets were not allowed to get close to the stage. Those tickets were good for seats in the bleachers. There are also unconfirmed reports that beer was not being sold inside

the grandstand last night. If that’s true … that’s bogus! UPDATE: They had the beer wagon closed before up until just before the show but were able to sell before Adelitas Way took the stage.

Uproar Festival

Uproar Festival

If you missed Adelitas Way last night at the Illinois State Fair, you’ll be able to catch them at Uproar in St. Louis this weekend. Some of you may have gotten a text yesterday from WQLZ instructing you to head over to the Coors tent to pick up some free tickets … and you’re welcome! That show is Sunday at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater featuring Adelitas Way, also Godsmack, Shinedown, Papa Roach, Staind, Fozzy, Thousand Foot Crutch, In This Moment, Redlight Kings and Mindset Evolution.

This weekend

Coming up this weekend on Full Metal Jackie, former Pantera front man Phil Anselmo will rock the airwaves where Jackie will put out new Down alongside Exodus, Machine Head, Judas Priest and more. Check out Full Metal Jackie Sunday night at 10pm.

Album Date Revealed--Name Unkown, New Drowning Pool Streaming & SOAD Best Of?

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Soundgarden chillin' until the new album drops
Soundgarden chillin' until the new album drops

Album date revealed, name unkown

It’s about time we get an update on when the new Soundgarden album drops. Rolling Stone magazine reports that the album will be in stores November 13th. We still don’t know what the album is going to titled but we do know that they’ve been working on the album for a couple of years now. This will be the first studio album from the Seattle band since 1996’s Down On The Upside. There is also word that the band has some 15 songs from earlier in their career that have yet to be released. Does this mean we could see another album of previously unreleased Soundgarden tunes? Not sure, we’re just waiting for that new album to finally drop!

New Drowning Pool streaming

Told you a bit ago about Drowning Pool finding a new singer—now the band is streaming a new tune with Jasen Mareno on vocals. The tune “In Memory Of …” is a dedication to late singer Dave Williams who passed away ten years ago. The band feels Mareno is now their guy and we expect to hear new Drowning Pool sometime early next year.  Listen to the new track below or follow this link.

SOAD best of?

Will it happen? Not sure. But System of a Down’s Serj Tankian says he’s open to the idea of releasing a SOAD greatest hits album with some previously unreleased tunes. The band still says they don’t have any immediate plans to get back together.

Five Finger Death Punch will fight you for that No. 1 spot

No. 1 again

If you’re a rock star, how do you know you’re doing the things right? Well, when you’re like Five Finger Death Punch and the last ten songs you released to the radio join the top ten on the active rock charts—then you know you’re doing things right. This week their single “Coming Down” hit No. 1 which makes it the tenth consecutive track from FFDP to get on the top ten of active rock tunes. They not only have been on the top ten with ten songs, the past three tunes they’ve released have reached No. 1. The other two are “Under and Over it,” and “Remember Everything.” FFDP is currently on the road and said to be working on new material. Surely they’ve got their formula down to continue their success.

Full song streaming

Last week we got a taste of the new Stone Sour and this week we’re getting at least one full course. The tune “Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero” is available streaming through RollingStone.com and will be on the forthcoming album House of Gold and Bones Part 1. Front man Corey Taylor says that the band is experimenting on different sounds with the concept album. Not only will there be an album, but Taylor says he’s working on a comic book to coincide with the release. We’re expecting the new Stone Sour out sometime next year.

Scott Stapp in deep thought
Scott Stapp in deep thought

Tell-all book

Creed front man Scott Stapp is planning a tell-all autobiography that he says will explain all the things he did that got such terrible press. The book called Sinner’s Creed will be out October 2nd. Stapp plans to talk about his abusive childhood, his suicide attempts, his out-of-control alcoholism and his all the lurid details about being a rock star. Creed will be at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand this Thursday with Theory of a Deadman and Adelita’s Way. Don’t forget, WQLZ will be just across the street from the Grandstand with the Coors Tent. So stop by and hang out before the show.

Vegas residency

Motley Crue did it and now it’s time for Guns ‘N Roses to give it a shot. Axl and the band have announced they’re taking up a residency in Las Vegas where they will play 12 shows beginning October 3rd. The shows will run through November 24th. It’s being dubbed “Appetite for Democracy” because they will cover everything from Appetite for Destruction to Chinese Democracy. Let’s just hope Axl can show up on stage on time.

Knotfest weekend

Knotfest kicks off this Friday in Pacific Junction, Iowa, and Corey Taylor hopes it’s the beginning of a good thing. There are only two dates this year with the second being in Somerset, Wisconsin, but Taylor told the Des Moines Register that he hopes in the years to come they’ll bust out a thirty-date festival tour, with or without Slipknot on the ticket. He also reiterated that the band is working on new material, but fans shouldn’t expect them to quickly release anything. All band members are gonna have input on the Slipknot new album.

ICP and the FBI

Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent

Attention all Juggalos—ICP is asking you to head over to the website JuggalosFightBack.com to fill out a questionnaire about being harassed because of your quote “affiliation” to the underground hip-hop group.

If you weren’t aware, last October, the FBI put ICP and their fans, known as Juggalos, on a list of violent gangs—right up there with MS13, the Crypts, Bloods and Aryan Nation. Well, at first ICP didn’t know what to do. Then they heard all kinds of stories of their fans parole or probation being violated because they wore a hatchet man hat or had a hatchet man or ICP tattoo. Why? Because that’s now considered gang affiliation. They’re also having trouble finding vendors to sell their merchandise because it’s consider gang apparel. Plus, people who do get busted for committing a crime who may have a hatchet man tattoo would be treated as a gang member, which could mean tougher prison sentences.

During the opening of ICP’s music festival The Gathering Friday afternoon, Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J made their announcement.

The thirteen minute, expletive laden, video announcement (above or at this link) explains the ramifications of ICP and Juggalos being put on a list and how it’s the first time in Rock and Roll history that a group of performers and their fans have been targeted so directly and publicly by the Feds. Again, the website is JuggalosFightBack.com.

Even after death, Yauch won't sell out

Information is coming out about late Beastie Boys founder Adam Yauch’s will. He’s refusing to be a corporate shill even after his death! The will filed in a Manhattan court Tuesday says that his image, music and any art he created cannot be used in commercial advertisements. MCA also left his wife and 13-year-old daughter in charge of his $6.4 million estate and his wife will now manage the rights to all of his creations. Yauch passed away May 4th after a long bout with cancer. In related news, the Beastie Boys are suing Monster Energy for using their music and name in online advertisements earlier this year.

Pussy Riot Verdict Next Week, & Puddle of Warrant

Pussy Riot verdict next week

A Russian punk band named Pussy Riot is making headlines around the world with the incarceration of three of their members. The three Russian women are being held on charges of sacrilege after they were arrested performing a punk tune at a mausoleum in Russia in protest of Russian President Vladimir Putin (watch video below, or follow this link). The incident happened before Putin was elected in March. Other protests the group organized includes an orgy at a museum and also they had one of their male members perform a sex act on a frozen chicken at a grocery store. Of course, it’s all in protest. The trial for the three women concluded this week and a verdict is expected next week. We’ll keep you posted.

Puddle of Warrant

Wes Scantlin has a warrant out for his arrest after the Puddle of Mudd front man failed to appear for a court date. Wednesday, Scantlin was supposed to show a judge in LA that he had enrolled in drug counseling courses, but he was a no show. A bench warrant was issued. Raise your hand if you’ve had a bench warrant. Don’t lie! Scantlin is facing charges of cocaine possession after being arrested in January on driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. As a way to skirt jail time, he worked a deal out to plead guilty to the cocaine charges and the others would be dropped. One condition was that he had to register and attend drug counseling. He’s gotta get back to court to clear things up August 17th.

New Green Day

We’re getting more of a glimpse at some new Green Day tunes, even if the glimpse is fan shot video from a secret show at the Echoplex in California, Monday. Three videos have surfaced online showing the band in all their punk glory performing “Nuclear Family,” “Kill the DJ,” and “Wild One.” All three tunes are expected on the forthcoming album iUno! which is due out September 25th. They’ll release a box set featuring all their studio album from 1990 to 2009 early next month exclusively through Best Buy.

Headed to studio in January

Told you yesterday how Five Finger Death Punch is writing new music while out on the road. Now it’s being reported that the band hopes to get into the studio this January after they finish up the American Trespass Festival tour. The forthcoming album will be the band’s 4th studio attempt.

Draiman's writing bio

David Draimen

For you readers out there, David Draiman, the front man for Disturbed, is writing an autobiography. The singer has revealed through Twitter that he has already written three chapters and that it will be released to coincide with his new side project Device—it’s an industrial metal band featuring Filter’s Geno Lenardo. There’s no word on when either the autobiography or the Device album will be out. Disturbed took an indefinite hiatus last fall so that band members could pursue other endeavors.

Blythe Thanks You, Writing on the Road & Talent Search

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Blythe thanks you

He’s back home and thankful for the outpouring of support from friends, family and fans. Randy Blythe spent nearly two months in a Czech Republic prison on charges his actions led to the death of a fan in 2010. Blythe says he was treated well in prison, but it was still a prison. He also says that he will return to Prague for the trial if necessary to clear his name and that he won’t be hiding in the United States.

Writing on the road

If you’re itching for new Five Finger Death Punch, well, they’ve got what you need. The band is currently on the Trespass America Festival tour and that hasn’t kept the and from writing new material. Guitarist Jason Hook says new ideas are being recorded while they’re touring. With technology so mobile, the band has a portable studio set up where they can work on some demos. FFDP is on tour for the Trespass America Festival alongside Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Pop Evil, Emmure, God Forbid and Battlecross.

Talent search

Hey all you singers out there—get your resume and demo reel together. Slash says Velvet Revolver is still looking for a new lead. For a while the band had been working with Jimmy Gnecco, but Slash says they just couldn’t make it happen. Gnecco, who fronts the band Ours, kept running into scheduling conflicts but Slash says he’s the exact type of singer they’ve been looking for. The band has been trying to find a singer for a while now and it was reported that they actually recorded some tunes with Corey Taylor. Will those ever see the light of day? Who knows? Slash is out right now touring for Apocalyptic Love.

Back To Work, Unreal Stage Show, & Family Man

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Back to work

He’s back at home after a long grueling saga of being held in a Prague jail for several months. Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe was let out on bail after being held on manslaughter charges. In 2010, a fan jumped up on stage three different times during a Lamb of God show. The third time he was thrown off the stage he hit his head and died ten days later. Prosecutors in Prague say that Blythe was the one who threw the fan off the stage. Though Blythe is free, he still must face trial. The band recently canceled their tour with Dethklok because of the imprisonment. But now Lamb of God is getting back to work with an appearance at Knotfest for both dates, August 17th and 18th. There are also reports that Lamb of God plans a headlining tour this fall. He’s gotta pay for legal expenses some how.

Unreal stage show

Metallica is going a bit overboard with their stage shows … but it surely will be a big draw for all you pyros. Video has surfaced online showing parts of the band’s stage show. The Mexico City concert from late last month included a center-arena stage with all kinds of moving parts. One 8-minute video featuring multiple angles of fan shot footage shows the insane amount of special effects, including faux air raids, explosions, machine gun fire, a 3 story high Lady Justice statue being built up and then torn down and so much more. Check that out here:

Family man

Korn’s bassist Fieldy is taking a leave of absence so he can be with his wife while she gives birth. In his place during live shows—Ryan from Mudvayne.

Breaking: Randy Blythe Freed from Prague Jail

Randy Blythe in court--He's now free on bail but still must face trial
Randy Blythe in court--He's now free on bail but still must face trial

Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe is free from a Prague jail, according to MetalHammer.com.

The singer was jailed for months after being held on manslaughter charges--a case involving a fan who jumped on stage three different times.  The third time the fan jumped on stage, it's reported that Blythe threw the victim off the stage.  The fan died 10 days after the incident.

Blythe will be able to return home, but will have to report back to Prague for the trial.

A statement from a Prague jail spokesperson says "The decision was reached yesterday at the end of a 16-hour closed session. The only condition of release was the approximately 8 million Czech Koruna bail."

Gaming With Linkin Park, First-ever Black Metal Game, ZZ Comeback, & Kid Rockin' the Race

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Gaming with Linkin Park

Another video game will feature music written by rock stars. This time Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda scores music for the forthcoming “Medal of Honor Warfighter” and the whole band will have a song called “Castle of Glass” featured on the game’s soundtrack. A video for the tune will feature footage from the game. Expect to pick up “Medal of Honor Warfighter” October 23rd.

First-ever Black Metal game

Speaking of video games—the first ever Black Metal video game has been released for the iPhone. Earlier this week the game Black Metal Man was released in the app store. The game is an endless runner in which the character is constantly running from the light. Naturally the game was crated in Norway—the home of some of the most brutal Black Metal.

ZZ Comeback

Who says their too old to rock? ZZ Top plans a comeback with their forthcoming album “La Futura.” It’ll be the first album from the duo in 9 years and is scheduled to drop in stores September 11th. Guitarist and long-beard Billy Gibbons says that the album will highlight some of the band’s directness from the early days but that doesn’t mean they’ll shun newer music technology. ZZ Top has been around for 42 years.

Kid Rockin' the race

Kid Rock wants to start the race and coming up August 19th, he’ll get that chance when he takes to the Michigan International Speedway to make the announcement for the Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR race. He’s already practicing screaming in his best Kid Rock voice “Gentlemen, Start Your Engines.”

The band expects to have the album out this fall. The song will be available on iTunes August 21st. You can hear a low quality version through a YouTube video online.

Zombie's movie screens soon

It’s almost time for Rob Zombie’s movie to start making the rounds. This September, Zombie will screen his film Lords of Salem at the Toronto International Film Festival. Zombie wrote and directed the movie which is about a 300-year-old witches coven that seeks revenge on the historic town of Salem. It’s not your typical horror movie, according to Zombie. He says that it’s not really scary, “it's a slow sort of mindf**k of a movie.” The movie started filming October last year.

Mad Lineup for the Kickoff of the Carnival of Madness

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Mad lineup for the kickoff of the Carnival of Madness

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to support rock shows here in Springfield. The Carnival of Madness kicked off their tour here last night at the Prairie Capital Convention Center. The festivities started at 5 with New Medicine taking the stage. They were followed by Cavo.

Listen to Cavo in-studio with The Dawg with the player above or download the podcast here

Before heading down to the Convention Center, Cavo hung out with Dawg at the Downtown Studio where they performed two songs on the air including they’re new single called “Circles.” Cavo’s new album Thick As Thieves is out now.

Back to the Convention Center for the Carnival, fans rocked out hard with Lizzy Hale taking the stage. Halestorm gave Springfield and The Rock Station, 92.7 WQLZ, plenty of love as we’ve carried the Halestorm flag for years.

Then Chevelle came out filling the convention center with tunes from their latest album Hats Off to the Bull. Chevelle placed clips of Walter Cronkite, Caddy Shack and even Mr. Rogers in between songs to make people feel … awkward.

The night wrapped up with Evanescence taking the stage playing to adoring fans. Again, thanks to everyone coming out to support rock shows here in the Capital City and for supporting Springfield’s Concert Leader, 92.7 WQLZ.

Don't forget to share you pics from last night on our Facebook wall!
