Developing: Springfield Sevendust Show

Update

Sevendust will be coming to Boondocks, but not February 19th as was originally reported.  Now there's word the band will be at the venue later in 2013.  Boondocks says the show has been postponed until May.  The band's album Black Out The Sun comes out March 26th.  Sevendust's month-long, now, 17-city tour with Lacuna Coil starts February 1st down in South Carolina and ends in Iowa with a Bloomington, Illinois date February 21st.

9:39am update

This morning's Music Minute reported that Sevendust will be coming to Springfield at Boondocks February 19th.  That report is based on ABC's Music News report about Sevendust's new album and forthcoming tour.  Read that article here.  The article clearly says that Sevendust will be in Springfield with supporting act Lacuna Coil.  However, Lacuna Coil's Twitter account this morning reports the show has been canceled!

Lacuna Coil says the Boondocks show is canceled

Lacuna Coil says the Boondocks show is canceled

Also, Sevendust's tour page on Facebook doesn't confirm the Springfield date.  Private messages from sources close to the situation say there are problems with the date and is being rescheduled, though there's no indication when that will be.  We'll keep you posted as soon as we get details.  Sevendust will be in Bloomington February 21st.

It's official: They're Coming to Town, and The Touring Bro Show

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

SevendustIt's official: They're coming to town

After several weeks of whispering rumors, it’s finally time to go public with it! You better not shout, you better not cry, you better not run, I'm telling you why, Sevendust is coming to town! February 19th Sevendust will be at Boondocks on North Dirksen with Lacuna Coil as support. The band also announced the release of their ninth studio album Black Out The Sun. Expect that in stores March 26th. We’ll be hearing the first single from the album titled “Decay” sometime late January. Keep it with 92.7 WQLZ for updates.

The Touring Bro Show

3 Doors Down and Chris Daughtry fans better practice their Bro talk as the two groups ramp up their tour. They say it’s just an excuse to hang out together. Daughtry worked close with 3 Doors Down singer Brad Arnold on his first record six or seven years ago. Back then they said they should tour together but schedules just never could match up. They’ll be in Champaign December 7th, and Rosemont December 9th.

Clown Sounds Off About New Album, Voting Rush and Oliveri back with QOTSA

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Clown sounds off about new album

Shawn "Clown" Crahan unmasked
Shawn "Clown" Crahan unmasked from ABC Radio

Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan is getting testy with all the questions regarding a new Slipknot album. The percussionist and film maker says that it’s nobodies business when a new album comes out. That really puts the outlook for the album in peril. Since bassist Paul Gray’s death in 2010, Slipknot members from Cory Taylor to Joey Jordison, and everyone in between, have been giving mixed signals on when, if ever, a new record would be produced. Crahan says he and other members never stop writing music—it’s just a matter of when they’re ready to head to the studio. He says that if Gray were still alive, fans would have the band’s fifth studio album already, but after his death the band decided to hit the road to share in the remembrance of Gray. Slipknot will be playing several shows overseas: Ozzfest Japan in May and the UK’s Download Festival in June.

Voting Rush

Some rock fans have a beef with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—and that’s the exclusion of Rush. This year it’s a bit different as fans come out in full force to push for Rush’s induction. Fans are getting a chance at voting to help sway the decision makers and right now Rush leads the fan poll with 24.3 percent. Deep Purple is second with 17.1 percent. Heart is third with 12.4 percent. Heart? Really? Anyways, you can sound off by visiting RockHall.com. Voting ends Monday, so get there today!

Only online: Oliveri back with QOTSA

It’s been years since bassist Nick Oliveri parted ways with the band he help start, Queens of the Stone Age, but reports indicate he’ll be one of the many guest stars on the forthcoming album. It’s already been reported that Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor and Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl are taking part in the record.

Twitter Garbage Talk, Pizza and Home Improvement and Digitized Rock Stars

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Twitter Garbage talk

She looks innocent, but Shirley Manson will rip into you
She looks innocent, but Shirley Manson will rip into you

The front woman of Garbage, Shirley Manson, got into a public battle with fans on Twitter after she criticized German concert goers. After performing a sold out show in Koln, Germany, Monday, Manson Tweeted “you were so strangely subdued! Sold out show but so cold? Funny. I know you love us but why couldn't you show it? We still love you.” That sparked some angry reactions from some Twitter users asking why she would criticize fans for buying tickets and then complaining that they weren’t loud enough at the show. Manson responded harshly telling critics to … well, get lost is a nice way to say it. You can check out her Twitter page for the dirty details.

Pizza and home improvement

The Black Key settled their copyright dispute with Pizza Hut and The Home Depot. The band claimed that the stores used their songs in commercials without their consent. They say “Lonely Boy” was used to push power tools while “Gold on the Ceiling” was used to hawk pizza. Both stores denied copying the songs for the commercials. So who came out on top? It’s hard telling. No details about the settlements were included in the Los Angeles court filings.  I wonder if they got some free power tools and pizza in the deal!?!

Digitized rock stars

Metallica’s James Hetfield and bassist Rob Trujillo will be digitized as skaters in the forthcoming download pack for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3D Revert Pack. Past versions of the game features the likes of Beasties Boys MCA, Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong.

Charges dropped

Remember that whole ordeal of Puddle of Mudd front man Wes Scantlin getting a bit rowdy on a passenger plane? Well he was charged with public intoxication. This was after pleading to a drug charge. Now the public intoxication charges have been dropped. A report indicates there was insufficient evidence for the charges. He could have done jail time if convicted. This past summer, Scantlin pleaded out charges of cocaine possession which meant he was supposed to keep out of trouble for at least 18 months.

Andrew W.K. says "I'll rock your face off, Mohamed"

So, what rock star would you chose to go to conservative Muslim nation as an ambassador for US culture? If you said Andrew W.K., you think a lot alike the State Department. But then again, you, like the State Department, would be crazy! The bloody-faced rocker was scheduled to head to Bahrain to promote partying and world peace. That invitation has been rescinded after officials figured the rocker who likes to party hard was deemed inappropriate for the conservative tight-wad Muslim kingdom.

Ozzfest overseas

Not that you’re gonna be able to afford a plane ticket to Japan, but Ozzfest Japan is shaping up to be pretty bad ass. If you were in Japan May 11th through the 12th you would be able to see Black Sabbath, Tool, Deftones, Slipknot, Slash and Stone Sour. Now go contact that travel agent!

They're engaged

Third time’s a charm for Nikki Sixx, or so he hopes. The Motley Crue bassist is getting hitched to his girlfriend Courtney Bingham. He’s been married two other times to two different Playboy Playmates.

Black Friday Auction, Album Streaming Online, and Bus Breaks Down

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Black Friday auction

While a bunch of people were running around from store-to-store trying to get the mad deals on discounted stuff, the Fourth Annual Grammy Charity Black Friday Auction kicked off with a ton of memorabilia from world renowned rock stars. At the Grammy EBay site, you can find stuff signed by bands like Alice In Chains, KISS, and Aerosmith, just to name a few. If you want to grab up some of those deals, you need to bid by December 3rd.

Album streaming online

Former Guns ‘N Roses drummer Steven Adler’s new album is streaming online. You can head over to RollingStone.com to hear Back From the Dead in it’s entirety. The album officially drops this week and features a slew of guest players, including Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 and former G’NR guitarist Slash. Adler says he plans to hit the road next year to promote the new album.

Bus breaks down

Future rock stars, take note: If you’re gonna travel the country to tour, you may want to ensure the bus you charter is fully maintained and doesn’t break down on the way to your next show. That’s what happened to Machine Head just before their show in Portland Saturday. The band released a statement saying that they had to cancel their show with All That Remains and Dethklok in Portland because they were broke down on the side of the road. The band had to miss a few shows earlier this month because front man Robb Flynn underwent surgery for a hernia. Just a reminder: to take care of your ride and yourself.

New Numbers Are In, Forthcoming Doc, Not Everyone Wants to Head to the Studio

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

New numbers are in

The numbers are in for the past week’s record sales and despite being absent from the new music scene for over 15 years, Soungarden’s new album King Animal landed at No. 5 with 83,000 copies sold in the first week. That’s not as good as their last release back in 1996 where Down on the Upside debuted at No. 2 with 176,000 copies. But given the age of digital downloads, 83,000 copies ain’t bad! Green Day’s second album in their trilogy, iDos! landed at No. 9 with 69,000 copies sold. Deftone’s Koi No Yokem debuted at No. 11. That’s not bad for the rock scene as there’s a ton of competition with pop, country and hip hop on the Billboard 200.

Forthcoming doc

They debuted at No. 9 with their second album in a trilogy and now Green Day has released some details about a forthcoming documentary that will be released next year. Titled iQuatro!, the doc will feature the ups and downs of recording their trilogy, some performances around the country and also the time in the studio. Some highlights from the film will air on VH1 November 28th. Check your local listings. The third album in their trilogy, iTre!, hits stores December 11th.

Not everyone wants to head to the studio

We heard last week about the upcoming re-release of Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled debut and the question still lingers … are they gonna get back into the studio. Guitarist Tom Morello, the unofficial spokesperson tells NME over in the UK that not every band member wants to get back in the studio. Our guess, it’s front man Zack DeLarocha, who’s been somewhat of a phantom in the music for the past few years.

He Brought What to the Airport? The Numbers are in ... Kinda, and He's Engaged ... Again

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Wayne Coyne is all hands
Wayne Coyne is all hands

He brought what to the airport?

Fill in the blank: “Sorry Sorry Sorry!! Everyone that was inconvenienced by my _______ at OKC airport.” It’s not exactly the right thing to take with you to the airport and that’s why Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne is apologizing. What is that thing? A grenade. The Twitter apology from Coyne was posted, unoticably, earlier this month. Acording to a police report, TSA had to shut down the airport terminal and call in the bomb squad. The “all clear” was given and Coyne apologized saying he should have known better.

The numbers are in ... kinda

We should get some updated chart numbers later this week to see how Deftones, Soundgarden and others are doing with the release of their new album. Soundgarden was projected to pop off between 70 and 75K copies in the first week. Before we get those updated numbers, let’s see where the charts stand now. Aerosmith’s Music From Another Dimension landed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Metalers All That Remains album A War You Cannot Win got lucky No. 13, Flyleaf’s New Horizons was way down at No. 50, but still good enough to be on the Billboard 200. Stone Sour’s House of Gold and Bones Part 1 landed at No. 57 and Green Day’s iUno! came in at 72.

He's engaged ... again

Third time’s a charm, or at least Scott Weiland is hoping. The Stone Temple Pilots front man announced his engagement to photographer Jamie Wachtel. Weiland has been married twice before.

First Time For Everything, Cobain Doc Out In 2014, and Projected February Releases

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

There’s a ton to get to, so let’s blow through it.

First time for everything

First up, AC/DC fans will finally be able to download their tunes through iTunes. The Aussie rockers were one of the last great rock groups to hold out on the digital download service provided by Apple. Columbia Records says 16 of AC/DC’s studio albums will now be available to download from iTunes worldwide.

Cobain in his prime
Cobain in his prime

Cobain doc out in 2014

There’s a new documentary about the life of Kurt Cobain in the works, and thankfully Courtney Love isn’t the person who initiated the film … or is she? Director Brett Morgan, who recently made a successful documentary about the Rolling Stones titled Crossfire Hurricane, says he’s in the beginning stages of piecing together the Cobain documentary for a 2014 release date. He also says that he’s been working with Love since 2007 on ideas. Cripes! The movie could be a kind-of third-person autobiography, as if Kurt was making the movie about himself.

Projected February release

There are a few projects to tell you about. Firstly, Maynard’s Puscifer has a new EP titled Donkey Punch the Night set to drop February 19th. One of the songs on the release will be a cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Another February release to give you a heads up is the side project from Disturbed’s front man David Draimen and Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo. With the band name Device, the first single will be titled Vilify. That’s due out in February with a full length release out sometime in April.

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Rage Against the Machine debut album cover20th anniversary album released soon

Well, they’re not recording anything new, but the 20th anniversary release of Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled debut will give fans a chance to relive the beginning of the history of the band. Guitarist Tom Morello tells Billboard that the band is not recording, but fans will be able to pick up the special release titled XX later this month. Morello says that never in the history of music has there been a band as popular as Rage that has such a radical political message, and that never has a band with such a radical political message been as popular as Rage. Reznor With Queens, Animated AX7 and New Kicks

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Reznor with Queens

There’s gonna be even more star power behind the forthcoming Queens of the Stone Age album with word that Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor will be working on the record. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, Reznor said he’s working a several projects. He mentioned the tweeks to the forthcoming How to Destroy Angels project with his wife Mariqueen. That release is due out in the spring. Reznor also said he’s working on rehearsing with two bands—HTDA and NIN, one could presume. Then he dropped the info nugget that he’s working on a track with Josh from Queens of the Stone Age. Last week, Queens sent a picture out on Twitter showing their mixing board with “Dave” behind the drums, hinting that Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters is also working on the project.

Animated AX7

Avenged Sevenfold love gaming so much, they got animated for their new video. The tune “Carry On” is actually part of the soundtrack for the new game Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The video shows two of the main characters in a profanity laced tirade just before taking the stage with an animated Avenged Sevenfold performing in a packed and animated night club. Aside from being seen online, the video is also featured at the end of the game, just after the credits.

New kicks

If you’re looking for some new kicks and are a fan of Soundgarden, well Santa came early this year. The band has released limited edition shoes through Converse. Only 60 are gonna be available, so you better act quick!

New Album and New Tour Co-headlining Tour and Taking Up Residency

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

New album and new tour

Their album dropped in stores yesterday and the band has announced a new tour. You can find King Animal at the usual places you find new music. Now Soundgarden has announced a tour that will begin January 18th in Washington. They’ll be in Chicago for two dates at the Riviera January 29th and the 30th. King Animal is the first album of new tunes in 15 years from the band. A video for the first single, “Been Away Too Long,” is also available online. See that video below or at this link.

Co-headlining tour

Speaking of tours, Three Days Grace, Shinedown and P.O.D. plan a tour. The co-headlining tour will kick off in Moline, Illinois February 1st. Then they’ll snake their way through parts of Wisconsin, Tennessee, Michigan, Kentucky eventually to end up in Maryland and Massachusetts. Three Days Grace’s new album is out now. Shinedown recently said they’ve got an entirely new album already in the can, but don’t have an expected release date.

Taking up residency

Motley Crue, and Guns ‘N Roses did it, why not Def Leppard? It’s not a tour, but it’s something that some more aged bands are taking up and that’s a residency in Los Vegas. The nine-date residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino begins March 22nd. The band plans to perform their Hysteria album in its entirety, then another set featuring some of their other hits. Band members say it will be an over-the-top rock show with elaborate sets made just for the residency.

Wounded Warrior--A film featuring Jonathan Davis

Veterans Day video

A couple of stories from the Korn front—First up, Jonathan Davis hooked up with soldiers from Ramstein Air Base in Germany back in August. He didn’t just visit with them, he got the grand tour of the air base (except for all the classified stuff of course). A video set to be released just in time for Veterans Day shows Davis checking out a C130J Hercules Aircraft and also watching some explosives demonstrations. The Korn front man also visited with injured service members. The film, titled Wounded Warriors will debut at the GI Film Festival in Hollywood Saturday just in time for Veterans Day, which is Sunday! Happy Veterans Day!

It's a boy

Also in Korn news, James “Munky” Shaffer is a dad again. Tweets from Munky’s wife welcome their son D’Angelo Draxon Shaffer into the world Wednesday. The Korn and Fear and the Nervous System guitarist has another kid, a daughter, from a previous relationship.

Another album already?

Shinedown says their next album is ready to go and it’s much darker and mischievous, according to front man Brent Smith. It’s not a matter of the band waiting to get back into the studio, the album is already in the can. It’s been less than a year since the band release Amaryllis and Smith says that band actually has the new album recorded. Smith says the band took more creative liberties on the new album and that fans can expect a darker and more mischievous fell. There’s not indication yet of the album title or of a release date.

The Show Must Go On, Single Suggestions, and Greatest Hits Planned

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

A grainy photo of the scaffolding collapse
A grainy photo of the scaffolding collapse

The show must go on

It wasn’t a stage that collapse at a Linkin Park show in South Africa that took the life of a concert goer—it was an advertising scaffolding. One fan died after the temporary structure collapsed in high winds Wednesday. The band posted on their website heartfelt condolences to the fan’s family saying she died from injuries she sustained in the collapse. Nineteen other people were hurt. A venue spokesperson says that the engineers gave the green light for the structure, but after the collapse they cleared the scene and the band went on with their show.

Single suggestions

We’re getting a bit of insight on the business of dealing with record label execs as Papa Roach front man Jacoby Shaddix shares how the band proposed several different tracks as the lead single from the new album, but got rejected. Shaddix says he took several tunes from the album to the label and they kept saying “that’s good, but not the lead single.” He first tried submitting “Won’t Let Up.” That didn’t fit their tastes. He then tried sending them “Gimme Back My Life.” That wasn’t what the execs were looking for either. Shaddix says he began to question their hearing. The third time was the charm as he submitted “Still Swingin” which execs said would be the first single. The tune isn’t the deepest song in the world, but Shaddix says it’s a “smack ‘em upside the head with the truth” song. The Connection is in stores now.

Greatest hits planned

Chevelle plans on releasing, what they’re calling, a collection of favorites. Expect to pick up Stray Arrows December 4th.

It was revealed by Queens front man Josh Homme that Grohl would be behind the drum set in the studio, just as he was back in 2002 for Songs for the Deaf. The band also posted a pick to Twitter of Dave in studio behind the drum set. No word on when that album is expected.

Free show and an F-bomb

A ton of students missed class yesterday at Boston University—that’s because Aerosmith was playing in Boston. The band came back to their old pad where they lived in the early 70s. It was a free lunchtime show where thousands of fans crowded the streets, hung out of windows, stood on fire escapes and on rooftops. It was a double promotion for both today’s elections and today’s release of their new album Music From Another Dimension. Also in promotion of their new album--last week, Steven Tyler dropped an F-bomb on the Today Show while calling it “Good Morning America.”

Free song

Kid Rock is getting honored by his home state. One of Rock’s new tunes called “Detroit, Michigan” is available on the state of Michigan tourism site. The song highlights Michigan celebrities like Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Eminem. You can download the song at Michigan.org. The song will be on the forthcoming album Rebel Soul, which is out November 19th.

Soul sister

It’s a family affair over at Team Chevelle. It’s always been a band of brothers, but the band actually brought in the fairer of the Loeffler family to sing on the single “Same Old Trip.” Pete Loeffler says that he was in the studio recording for the new record and he started singing using his falsetto, but it wasn’t working out as intended. His sister Natalie, who is married to Chevelle bassist Dean Bernardini, just so happened to be there that day and Pete put some headphones on her and set her in front of a microphone. She ended up belting out the part in 30 minutes, which is quick in studio terms. Pete says he’ll more than likely use his sister’s voice again in the future.

He already plans a comic book based on the two-album concept release from Stone Sour and now Corey Taylor is tossing around the idea of making House of Gold and Bones into not just one but two different movies. Taylor says that he’s already got a film production crew ready fronted by Shaun Crahan from Slipknot. He also says he knows a bunch of super-creative people that would be perfect for this project, but he hasn’t yet hammered out all the details. House of Gold and Bones Part 1 opened up with 31,000 sales in the first week placing it at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. House of Gold and Bones Part 2 and a comic book series about the concept will be out next year.

Want to sample it before you can buy it? Deftones have made 30-second samples of all the songs set to appear on their seventh studio album Koi No Yokan available to stream online. The video for the first single “Temptress” should be out sometime this week. The album drops in stores next Tuesday.

Succumbing to pressure

The promoter for Guns ‘N Roses residency in Las Vegas took the woman out entirely from the promotional poster after being criticized by area officials. The band got a street named after one of their songs and a county commissioner came out regretting the decision after seeing the poster for the band’s residency. The poster was a take of the Appetite for Destruction album cover which showed a distraught woman half clothed. Now there is no woman, and a sign that says welcome to Paradise City written over Sin City.  Watch a news piece about the controversy below or at this link.

Box set and new song

Soundgarden has released, streaming online, another song from their forthcoming album King Animal. The tune, titled “Non-State Actor” drives real well, and it incorporates an organ grinder. The song release comes with the announcement that the band will release a King Animal box set featuring a ton of extras, plus a vinyl copy of the record and a DVD of the band’s performance at Hyde Park. Though the standard version of King Animal hits stores November 13th, the box set loaded with features won’t be out until January 31st. Get detail on the box set at Soundgarden’s website. Listen to the new song below or at this link.

Appetite for controversy

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, unless you offend a women’s group. Guns ‘N Roses have done just that. As they prepare for their residency in Sin City, the band got a road named after one of their songs. Paradise Road is now, temporarily, named Paradise City Road. But, a county commissioner now regrets that move after she saw a poster for the band’s residency. The poster is an update of the Appetite for Destruction album cover, except the woman’s bare breast is covered and the panties that were around here ankles have been removed entirely. Commissioner Mary Beth Scow says that regardless of the posters revisions, it still implies violence against women. Gun ‘N Roses has yet to respond. They started their residency in Las Vegas yesterday to honor the 25 year anniversary of Appetite for Destruction.

New album sooner

Meanwhile, it took them 15 years to put out Chinese Democracy, but that won’t be the case for their new album. Gun ‘N Roses tells USA Today their next attempt will be out much sooner. Rose says chasm between albums was due to the industry and his lyric writing ability—which he says was damaged in the war with former band mates—whatever the hell that means.

Postponed shows

Superstorm Sandy has taken it’s toll on the rock world with Smashing Pumpkins having to cancel their show in New York last night. The band is in the process of bumping their dates in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and a show in Connecticut to December.
