The 'Knot is Okay, Hole Reunion, and Book Therapy

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

The 'Knot is okay

Corey Taylor wants you to know that Slipknot are not falling apart. That’s the word from the front man as fans worry about the future of the band given longtime drummer Joey Jordison parting ways. Taking to Twitter, Taylor said that if you think “The Knot” are falling apart, “you are greatly and sadly mistaken.” Taylor even has a New Year’s resolution saying “Bring On 2014. Great Things Are Coming. Stay Tuned …” Earlier this month the band announced that Jordison will no longer be with the band. The band has been teasing that they will come together to release the first album since 2008’s All Hope is Gone. It would also be the first album from the band since the death of bassist Paul Gray back in 2010.

Hole reunion

There could be a Hole reunion in 2014. Front woman Courtney Love posted a blurry pic of herself hugging Eric Erlandson, the band then guitarist. In a message posted with the pic, Love hints that she may be working with him and some other former members of the band next year. Then band released an album in 2010, but before that it was 1998 before they released anything. Follow Ms. Love on Twitter to stay up to date with those developments, and to stay up to date with her craziness!

Book therapy

Travis Barker is taking to the printing press for therapy. The Blink 182 drummer has had a roller coaster of a career drumming for the very successful and popular punk band and also about dying in a plane accident. The new memoir will document that and many more things. Expect that in the Fall of next year.

Cobain Met GG, Stanley's Tell-All, and Weeks Going Solo

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Cobain met GG

You may not know who GG Allin is, but Kurt Cobain did! It’s being reported that the late Nirvana front man visited the underground sadistic punk rocker back in 1990 while Allin was serving time in prison. The revelation comes in a new book about the Flaming Lips, which details a meeting between Cobain, Flaming Lips drummer Nathan Roberts and Allin. That meeting was before a show back in Michigan before a Nirvana, Flaming Lips show. Allin didn’t take kindly to the two visitors as the book reports he spit at them and said some not-to-nice things. Who is GG Allin? Just go and do a Google search, but try not to do it while at work. Unless your boss is down with you watching some depraved rocker cut himself on stage and throw fecal mater on people. Allin died of a, get this, heroin overdoes back in 1993.

Stanley's tell-all

Finally getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame won’t be the only thing Paul Stanley writes in his book. The KISS guitarist and vocalist will reveal a ton of personal stuff in the memoir that’s set to be released around the time of the Rock Hall induction ceremony. Some of the things from the official autobiography titled Face the Music: A Life Exposed will include struggles he has with deafness in his right ear. The singer says he doesn’t want his book to come across as other rock and roll memoirs come across—pompous narcissism with no humility whatsoever. Stanley is the last member of KISS to release a memoir. The book drops April 22nd.

Weeks going solo

Saving Abel will have a change up in their lineup for the new year. Front man Jared Weeks is leaving the group to start a solo career. What does that mean for the band? They’ll have a new front man in Scott Austin. Weeks is moving to Nashville where he’ll start on a solo disc. Recently Weeks temporarily filled in vocals for Hinder after they parted ways with Austin Winkler.

Nirvana Day, Manson to Headline, Lacuna Coil Dropping Out, and NIИ Tops the List

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Nirvana Day

The town of Hoquiam, Washington, has proclaimed April 10th to be Nirvana Day in their fair city. That’s the day that the stewards of early 90s grunge will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hoquiam mayor Jack Durney acknowledged that the late singer Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic both lived in Hoquiam for a little while and says that it’s important to “honor our sons and their great accomplishments.” On a more somber note, both the proclaimed Nirvana day in Hoquiam and the induction ceremony will take place five days following the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s suicide.

Manson to headline

Not sure what an Alt-Fest is, but Marilyn Manson will be headlining in 2014. The UK-based festival will run from August 15 through the 17th at some estate in the backwoods of the United Kingdom. The festival will also feature the likes Truck Fighters, Cradle of Filth, KMFDM, Killing Joke and others.

Lacuna Coil dropping out

Lacuna Coil are bowing out of ShipRocked this coming January. The band posted a message to their Facebook page that says they decided to pull out … of the festival so they can take care of some pressing personal issues. The joint statement goes on to say they are unable to travel such far distance away from loved ones and that they’re sorry for everyone who was planning on checking them out on the cruise for metal heads. Don’t worry though, if you have tickets, you’re still gonna get rocked, with ShipRocked, as Five Finger Death Punch, Sevendust, In This Moment and Device, plus others, prepare to rock the ocean’s vastness. ShipRocked takes off from from Miami to the Bahamas January 26th.

NIИ tops the list

The elaborate live stage show brought on this year by Nine Inch Nails helped secure their spot on Entertainment Weekly’s list of top performances this year. The magazine writes that Nine Inch Nails used epic, churning light shows to wow fans. NIN will release a concert video for their Tensions tour sometime next year.

Talking head, Entire video posted, and New Album and New Fued

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Talking head

He’s not a philosopher king, but he still wants to speak his mind. Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is gonna bring his spoken word tour to the US after a successful run in the UK earlier this year. Taking a cue from anti-authoritarian punk great Henry Rollins, Ian took to the stage with “Speaking Words” back in May in the UK and now it’s time for us here in the States to get a taste. The one-man speaking engagement will hit up the Maynestage in Chicago February 20th and then will bounce up to Detroit, a stint in Ontario then back down to New England. The show features talk on many different levels. Ian says that it’ll make you laugh and think as it’s “s**t that I have been through in my life.”

Entire video posted

They made the audio download of their Antarctica show available earlier this week and now Metallica have posted the high-definition video of the performance on YouTube. The more than hour-long performance in a scientific dome from near the south poll features the band playing fan favorites as part of a contest from Coca-Cola.

New album and new fued

A new album is coming from Sixx: A.M. in early 2014 after it was announced the band has put the finishing touches on the new attempt. That’s not the only news the band is making. Front man and bassist Nikki Sixx is also verbally smacking around Godsmack front man Sully Erna … via Twitter. Seemingly completely unprovoked, Sixx took to Twitter and blasted Erna, taggin him directly in the post, saying:

Erna and the crew from Godsmack toured with Motley Crue a few years ago and Erna says that’s where he came up with the tune “Cryin’ Like a Bitch,” but that songs been out for a clip, so it’s unclear if Sixx is addressing that old wound, or if he’s merely commenting on Erna’s role in the released directly to video movie Army of the Damned. Gotta love public Twitter fights between rock stars! Way to keep it classy, guys!

Re-release to Feature Concert Vid, Next Year, Headlining, and Love's Twitter Fight

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Re-release to feature concert vid

In This Moment are gonna release a special edition of their highly successful album Blood that will feature 2 discs. One of the discs will be the album featuring a special cover of the Nine Inch Nails tune “Closer.” The other disc will be a live DVD of the band performing at the Orpheum. A trailer of the live DVD posted online shows scenese from the concert but the disc will also include behind the scenes footage and some interviews. And of course there will be several options to get your hands on the content: a CD/DVD, CD/Blu-ray, and a digital audio and video download. Expect to pick that up January 21st.

Next year

Looking into 2014, there are some highly anticipated albums we’re holding out for. We’ve heard everything from a new Tool album to new Foo Fighters and Judas Priest, and even possibly Slipknot or Metallica. Those last two, however, may actually come out in early 2015. Either way, 2014 will be a big year for rock.

Soundgarden will be back in business next year as they are lining up shows. One has already been booked for June 18th over in Israel. The band has been on hiatus since the release of the latest album a few years ago and since drummer Matt Cameron has been working with Pearl Jam recording, performing and promoting their new album. Soundgarden will headline a two-day festival along with a several Lollapalooza dates in Chile, Brazil and Argentina in March and April.

Love's Twitter fight

Courtney Love will be in court again, this time it’s over Twitter. The Hole singer and wife of the late Kurt Cobain is on the hot seat again as a series of tweets she put out will be judged by a jury. The tweets were about her attorney Rhonda Holmes, saying that she was bought off. Holmes claims defamation. The trial is set for January 13th. Oh, goody!

Former PJ Manager Pleads Guilty, North American Tour Announced, Cool Performance and Slash is Busy

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Former PJ Manager Pleads Guilty

The last you would want as a band is a manager who steals from you, but that’s exactly what happened to Pearl Jam. It was reported earlier this year that an executive at Pearl Jam’s now former management company was charged with taking $380,000 from the band over a four-year stretch. Well, just in time for Christmas, the Grinch … also known as Ricky Charles Goodrich, pleaded guilty to 6 counts. It’s reported that dude had 33 charges leveled against him, which included using band credit cards to purchase personal items and to transfer money to his personal accounts to pay off debts. He’ll be sentenced February where prosecutors will ask for a 6 month jail stay … but only if he pays off what he took. If not, he’ll get 14 months behind bars.  (It's also Eddie Vedder's 49th Birthday today!)

North American Tour Announced

Asking Alexandria are gonna take to the road. The band will bring to North America their “Break Down the Wall” tour starting early March down in Texas with a final listed date in April, where they’ll end up in California. There is a date in Chicago at the House of Blues April Fools Day. There are also more dates expected to be announced in the near future.

Cold performance

Video has surfaced of Metallica’s Freeze ‘Em All show in Antarctica from earlier this month. Head online to catch the 20 minute video that recaps the entire event. It also includes performances of the tune “Creeping Death,” and a cover of Killing Joke’s “The Wait.” Now if you want to hear more than that, you can actually go and purchase a download of the Freeze ‘Em All show at The performance was part of a contest where some lucky fans got sent down to Antarctica with the band while they performed in a dome near the South Poll. They were gonna head to the North Poll, but Santa had to cancel because it was so close to the holiday.

Slash is busy

Slash isn’t running out of ideas anytime soon. The famed guitar player sent a message out on Twitter saying he has 16 tracks worked up and completed, plus an instrumental. But he also says it’s hard to decide what goes on the record and what will be bonus tracks. He says “It’s all cool.” Of course it’s all cool. You’re friggin’ Slash, man. Everything you touch is cool.

Silveria Calls Fieldy a Wimp and a Bitch, Pussy Riot Freed, and R U Ready for Some ... Rock Shows

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Silveria calls Fieldy a wimp and a bitch

Is he jelly or just bitter? Not sure, but ex-Korn drummer David Silveria is laying into one of his former bandmates … making it more clear that there won’t be a reunion with the former drummer. Earlier this year, Silveria took to his Facebook page and said that he would be open to returning to the band to “restore the groove.” Front man Jonathan Davis came out saying that wouldn’t happen. Now Silveria is reacting to Korn’s bassist’s recollection of a fight between the two as depicted in Fieldy’s 2010 book Got The Life. A fan asked on his page what happened there and Silveria held no punches back in responding. He said that Fieldy is a coward with a big mouth and knows that he would have gotten his ass beat like a little wimp. He also says he would like to crush him like a little bitch. Yeah, safe to say Silveria aint’ coming back.

Pussy Riot freed

They made international news after being arrested last year and now all members of the Russian punk rock protest band Pussy Riot are free from prison, ahead of schedule. One member was let out earlier this year after an appeal. The two members that did remain behind bars, whose names I will refrain from evening attempting to say (or spell), were just released. The three women were arrested after they went into a Russian cathedral and performed a punk rock song that blasted President Vladimir Putin. Putin said he was not sorry that they were punished, but was sorry they engaged in such disgraceful behavior.

R U Ready for Some ... Rock Shows

Getting ready for the Super Bowl? Well, so are a bunch rock bands as they prepare to play some select show around the weekend of the gladiatorial-like event. The Red Hot Chili Peppers plan to play the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and now Foo Fighters are gonna take to a stage in New York performing for the Bud Light Main Event concert. The Super Bowl is February 2nd.

Should be sentenced to Hell, Megadeth X-Mas and Stanley book in April

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Should be sentened to Hell

The former lead singer of Lostprophets has a long vacation planned … 29 years in prison. But it should be infinity in hell! Ian Watkins was sentenced by a British judge yesterday. The judge said that the rock star abused his fame to satisfy his insatiable lust for young children. Watkins pleaded guilty last month to 13 different charges, which included sexually touching a 1 year old, encouraging a fan to abuse her child and make pornography and trying to rape a baby. Are we sure that 29 years is enough for this scum bag? Shouldn’t it be more? Or maybe, like castration or something? A baby, dude? Really? Sick, absolutely sick. Watkins was visibly shaking during sentencing. And he should be … They don’t take kindly to baby rapers in prison. Authorities are looking into whether he had more victims with as extensive a schedule the band had. Remaining members of the band announced a break from Watkins after he was arrested. They should just burn the name, too. It’s ain’t ever coming back, guys.

Megadeth X-Mas

Jimmy Kimmle Live is proving to be worth watching, as the show knows how to have fun with thrash bands. When Megadeth was on earlier this week promoting their album Supercolider, they decided to have some holiday fun and made a parody video for a Christmas album titled Thrashing Through the Snow, A Very Megadeth Christmas. It’s not a real album, but the video is worth checking out. The video shows the band performing a variety of heavy metal versions of popular Christmas tunes for some freaked out kids. The band then performed “Kingmaker,” which is also available to view from Jimmy Kimmel’s YouTube site.

Stanley book in April

KISS will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame come April and that’s about the same time that co-founder of the band Paul Stanley plans to relese a book. His memoir will be titled Face the Music: A Life Exposed. The book will come out two weeks before the Rock Hall induction ceremony.

Grohl and Novoselic React, and Simmons Welcomes Reunion

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Grohl and Novoselic react

His current band Foo Fighters are getting ready to record a new album, and surely are all ready well on their way to becoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees at some point down the road when they’re eligible, but Dave Grohl is basking in the light of his other band’s induction. The Nirvana drummer says that he is speechless. He also says he wants to thank those who recognized Nirvana for what it represented, which is “pure rock and roll.” In a statement released by remaining members of the band, bassist Krist Novoselic said he wanted to thank most of all Kurt Cobain. Cobain killed himself in April of 1994. Novoselic also thanked everyone who has helped keep rock music strong for 60 years and counting. The Rock Hall induction will be in April and will air on HBO in May.

Simmons welcomes reunion

They’re known for big theatrics and even bigger riffs—and I’m not talking about guitar riffs … An induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame may bring some of the original members of KISS back together. Shortly after the news was announced that the long looked over rockers were accepted into the Rock Hall, Gene Simmons said he’s open to the idea of having a reunion with former members of the band. When pressed on Simmons’ previous refusals to get back together with former members, the bassist said he menat for tours, but “they were equally important in the formation of the band.” Peter Criss says he wants the band to be known for bringing the big top circus to rock and roll. Ace Frehley says the news of the induction was a personal boost for him, something to lift his spirits especially a few days after his house caught fire in suburban New York.

Kiss Finally Makes Rock Hall, Make That Two No. 1's, Puddle of Trouble, and Done Animated

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Kiss finally makes Rock Hall

Break open that Champaign! They’ve finally made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, bitches! Just who are we talking about? Well, Kiss of course! After years of larger than life reputations, gobs of diehard fans that rival the likes of ICP Juggalos, the band that has for years brought together theatrics and marketing skills to amass a rock and roll empire has finally been accepted into the Hall of Fame. They’re just one of the inductees announced yesterday for the 2014 class. Nirvana also made it in. The induction ceremony will be held April 10th and will air on HBO in May. Other bands that got include Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates and Cat Stevens and Linda Rondstadt.

Make that two No. 1's

Maybe they’ll have the rock hall in their future, after all not every band gets top of the charts so early in their career ... Pop Evil just landed at No. 1 on the Rock Charts for their tune “Deal With The Devil.” The landing marks the second song the band has had scoring a No. 1 slot. The band’s last show on the road was at Bunkers in Illiopolis the weekend before last. Now they take a break and then it’s back on the road with Stone Sour.

Puddle of trouble

It’s hard to know where the bottom is for Wes Scantlin. The Puddle of Mud front man has an arrest warrant issued from the bench because he failed to show up for a court hearing last week on a cocaine possession case. Dude’s been arrested for vandalism, which included using a buzz saw and sledge hammer on his neighbors’ property (allegedly), a drunken airplane altercation and even allegedly attacking his ex-wife. Add in some tickets for speeding and charges of thousands in back taxes, it’s safe to say Scantlin is not having a good year.

Done animated

Got your fill of Avenged Sevenfold yet? If not, they’ve got an animated series you’ll have to check out. The series is based off their Hail to the King concept and consists of six episodes put together by Metalocalypse director and co-producer Jon Schnepp. The band also has a video game they’re preparing to release. The video game is called Hail to the King: Deathbat. It’ll be available on mobile platforms sometime in early 2014.

Taylor Reacts to Jordison Departure News, and Studio Plans for Halestorm and Chevelle

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Taylor reacts to Jordison departure news

So, what direction will Slipknot be going now that the band is moving on without drummer Joey Jordison? In a recent interview with a radio station out of Minneapolis, front man Corey Taylor says that he can’t really talk about it right now because it’s so fresh and there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes that the public doesn’t know about, so, quote, “legally and respectfully, I can’t say a lot about it.” Taylor says he can confirm that “we have parted ways with Joey and as soon as we can say something, we will, but we’re trying to protect him, trying to protect us, just making sure that we do everything right because that’s what we would expect from ourselves and what we would expect from the fans.” Taylor also says he understands fans are “chomping at the bit” to find out what’s next. As for the next Slipknot album, Taylor says the remaining members are working on new material and getting stuff together. It was revealed late last week that Jordison would not be with the band moving forward. He also hasn’t been part of the current songwriting process, according to reports.

Studio plans for Halestorm and Chevelle

A couple of bands are heading into the studio to start laying down tracks for new albums. Halestorm will be cutting new tracks for their third album. After a full year out on the road supporting their album The Strange Case Of … , the band is taking a brief holiday break and then they’ll get back at it … jumping right into the creative process for their third record. Drummer Arejay Hale says the band will be locking themselves away for all of January to write the album. They’re not starting from scratch, as touring bands often do, they’ve been piecing things together while on the road.

Meanwhile Chevelle are also returning to the studio to lay down some cuts for a new album. In a post to the band’s Facebook page, a video of front man Pete Loeffler jamming on the guitar in the studio. There’s no word on when an new album will be out, but you can expect more videos of the in-studio action. This would be Chevelle’s seventh studio album.

Jordison Parts With Slipknot, Band Still Plans New Album, and New Supergroup

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Jordison parts with Slipknot, band still plans new album

The rock world is … well, rocked by the news that Slipknot has parted ways with drummer Joey Jordison! The news came from a statement posted to the band’s official website late last night. The message says (found on the main page): “To our Maggots and fans around the world, It is with great pain but quiet respect that, for personal reasons, Joey Jordison and Slipknot are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds. We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future. It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year.” But for die hard fans who help put Jordison on top of the drum world, this is going to be a difficult change to get over. The band lost bassist Paul Gray back in 2010. Since then, several members, including Jordison, have gone off to work on side projects. Jordison has been running with Scar the Martyr helping promote their new album. On the flip side, ‘Knot guitarist Jim Root announced he’d leave the upcoming Stone Sour tour to focus on the new Slipknot album. Corey Taylor is still going to tour with Stone Sour.

New Supergroup

Call it a supergroup if you will … Members from Anthrax, Megadeth and A Perfect Circle have gotten together for a new group called Altitudes and Attitude. Bassist Frank Bello from Anthrax, Megadeth’s David Ellefson and A Perfect Circle’s new drummer Jeff Friedl have gotten together for an EP release January 14th. The three song release is something Ellefson says fans would never suspect that two metal bassists would have songs with names like “Booze and Cigarettes,” but we’ll get to hear them next month!

Beastie Boys File Suit, Benefit Concert Planned, and What is Puscifer?

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Beastie Boys file suit

Apparently an apology and a voluntary taking down of the video wasn’t enough for the Beastie Boys … The remaining members of the group have filed suit against GoldiBlox over a video the toy company put out with a parody of the Beastie tune “Girls”. The suits first started when GoldiBlox filed something in court seeking copyright protections because of the song they used wasn’t the exact song … it was changed up with little kids singing different lyrics, but the internet video, which had been viewed over 8 million times before it was voluntarily taken down by the toy company, was still selling something, and Boys Beastie weren’t having it. The suit filed by the remaining members of the group say that GoldieBlox “achieved and continues to achieve additional publicity, press coverage and upon information and belief, greater sales of its products, as a direct result of the Beastie Boys.” Can’t argue with that. The suit also says instead of “developing an original ad campaign” the toy company developed a campaign that “condones and encourages stealing from others.” Beastie boys don’t allow their tunes to be used in commercials.

Benefit concert planned

Not many rock stars can build houses or provide direct humanitarian assistance to places wrecked by mother nature, but what they can do is raise money! Linkin Park, the Offspring and some other special guests have been confirmed for a concert January 11th in LA to raise money for victims of the hurricane that rocked the Philippines earlier this year. It’s gonna be an exclusive deal with only 500 tickets being made available. People wanting to get in will have to raise a minimum of $250 for typhoon relief. The top fund raisers overall will be rewarded with other perks.

What is Puscifer?

The band fronted by Maynard has posted a minute long video online asking the question “What is Puscfer.” In the video, comedian and actor Bob Odenkirk asks the question and even tries to answer it by saying “is it the part of a lady?” or “do men have it too?” and asks if it’s “Something you should have checked out?” The video also has some clips of a concert film from the band that’s available through iTunes.

Documentary Release Set for February, Rock Star Visits Portlandia, Secret Foo Fighters Show, and Animated Series Next Week

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Documentary release set for February

There’s word of the Lamb of God documentary As the Palace Burns getting a release date, and the movie actually gonna hit theaters before you can secure a copy for yourself. The documentary was originally supposed to show the band has evolved over the years and how extreme music can bring people together, but things quickly changed when front man Randy Blythe was arrested on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic. The documentary goes thought the trial and Blythe’s eventual aquital. Expect to see a worldwide release beamed out February 27th. There are also plans to have a 30 minute QnA with the band as part of the film’s showing. Blyth also recently revealed he has a book coming out sometime next year as well.

Rock star visist Portlandia

I’ve never seen it because I can’t stand actor/comedian Fred Armisen. But apparently the show he stars in, Portlandia is gonna get some treatment from rockers the likes of Josh Homme, Duff McKagan and others. The IFC show will feature the musicians in several future episodes. Previous episodes featured the likes of Eddie Vedder, Jack White and others. The fourth season kicks off February 27th.

Secret Foo Fighters show

Patrons of Rock & Roll Pizza got a belly and ear full! Foo Fighters put on a secret show for the pizza shop in California before they head down for a couple of dates in Mexico City. The band performed 23 songs, which included no new songs. Dave Grohl recently said that the band is preparing to record the follow up to 2011’s Wasting Light. He also says that it will be recorded in a way that no one has ever done before. There’s no word yet on when they’ll get into the studio, if that’s what they plan on doing. All we know, Grohl could plan to record some tracks while jumping out of a plane or while SKUBA diving or something. We’ll keep you posted.

Animated series next week

If you’ve been waiting for Avenged Sevenfold’s new animated series, you won’t have to wait much longer. Front man M. Shadows posted online that all six episodes of the show will be available on Machinima’s HappyHour channel on YouTube December 15th. The cartoon is expected to be the precursor to a videogame about the fictitious band Deathbat.

Sub-Zero Metallica Show, First Festival Appearance of 2014, and Wrestling Maynard

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Sub-zero Metallica show

They're the first band to play a show on every continent. Metallica rocked a show in Antactica Sunday to a crowd of 120 scientists and contest winners as part of a sweesptakes from Coca-Cola Zero. The band performed a ton of their classics in what was dubbed the “Freeze ‘Em All” show. Now, they didn’t play outside in the sub-zero elements … they rocked out inside a dome near a heliport of the Carlini Scientific Base. Apparenlty, in accordnacne with Antarctic protocol the band’s amplifiers were in isolation cabinets and crowd members had to listen to the show through headphones. Metallica posted to their Facebook page that it was the most unique show they’ve ever done.  See photos here.

First festival appearance of 2014

The Black Keys are done with their break … or at least come July they’ll be done with their break. The bands first summer festival performance for 2014 is set for Pland’s Open’er Festival. News from the band has been pretty quite after a very successful year.

Wrestling Maynard

Imagine going to wrestling practice in high school, worried you’ll have to get into the sweat chamber just to make weight. And then in walks Tool and A Perfect Circle front man Maynard James Keenan. Well, that’s exactly what happened in Scottville, Michigan. Keenan graduated from Mason County Central High back in 1982, where he was a member of the wrestling squad there. Back in the day, Maynard was known as Jim. He also just so happened to wrestle with another Jim who is now the coach for the Scottville squad. Maynard says he got involved last year knowing that Jim would provide the type of work ethic and pride he grew up with. The Tool front man even paid for 16 wrestlers to attend a wrestling camp, so he got to get out his philanthropic kick as well. Tool is reported to be working on a new album, but it's unclear when that will be released.

Pop Evil Taking a Brief Break, Grammy Needs More Rock, and Charged With Murder

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Pop Evil taking a brief break

After their show at Bunkers in Illiopolis, the guys from Pop Evil are taking some much needed downtime. The band has been out on the road all year, and that’s taken a toll on their ride. Saturday, some of the crew from the band talked about how their bus is to the point where they can’t even get space heaters to work, let alone other comfort items. Before Saturday’s concert some lucky QLZ listeners got to break bread with the band and took some pics. You can see those pics online right now at, hover over Interact and you’ll see pics. Pop Evil hit the road in January for a tour with Stone Sour.

Grammy needs more rock

So, there may be one category of this year’s Grammy Awards that will be worth a damn. In the Rock Album category there are some good pics, and also some interesting additions. Announced Friday evening, the 56th Grammy Award noms for the best Rock Album include Black Sabbath’s 13. That’s a no-brainer. They also put Queens of the Stone Age’s … Like Clockwork, which is also a fantastic nomination. But they also included David Bowie’s new album and Kings of Leon’s new album. Not to knock those two groups, and I mean, come on, Bowie is a legend, but that makes it clear there needs to be a hard rock category to add more flavor to the Grammys. The awards ceremony are January 26th.

Charged with murder

That bar owner who shot outlaw country singer Wayne Mills has been officially charged with Second-Degree Murder. Christopher Ferrell told police that he shot Mills at his Nashville, TN, bar November 23. He claims it was self defense, but police the investigation didn’t find evidence to support the claim. Ferrell said there was an argument about Mills smoking a cigarette in a no-smoking area.

Canceled Cornell show

Fans hoping to see Chris Cornell last night in Miami were put out after the singer canceled a show because of a shoulder injury. The Soundgarden front man is also having to cancel his show in St. Petersburg. The injury occurred last week and he tried to perform but the strain was too much. He may actually have made it worse by trying to push it, so his doctor told him to rest up completely. Get well soon, Chris. Other members of Soundgarden are kicking back and chilling while Cornell does his solo deal. Drummer Matt Cameron is actually out with Pearl Jam right now preparing to support that band’s latest album, including a show tonight with Mudhoney in Seattle. They’ll be out overseas early next year.

Not Next Year, Beats Launches Next Month, Network TV Gig, and Role in Horror Movie

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Not next year

If you’re looking to head to Metallica’s Orion Music + More Festival next year, think again. Organizers for the multi-day festival are taking the year off. Orion had been held in June the past few years, but that just so happens to be when Metallica will be overseas during a European tour. A spokesperson tells Detroit media that the festival may return in 2015, but it’s unclear where it will be held. The festival was first held in Atlantic City and then was in Detroit. It’s unclear where it will be held next.

Beats launches next month

Move over Spotify, Rhapsody and Rdio … the music service that Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor provided input for is nearing a launch. A press release from the company’s CEO says that after testing and feedback the service is locked, loaded, and ready for a launch next month. You can actually go to the website right now and secure your username. Beats is a spin from Dr. Dre’s Beats by Dre.

Network TV gig

Move over Brad Pitt, Bret Michaels is ready to hit the silver screen … well not quite that big, but he’ll still be featured in a network TV show that isn’t some stupid reality crap. The Poison front man will play a version of himself on the NBC sci-fi drama Revolution. The gist is, he’ll be on the show to perform an acoustic version of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Isn’t he getting sick of that song? Anyway … that episode is set to air some time next year.

Role in horror movie

Slipknot/Stone Sour front man Corey Taylor is set to make his first appearance in a movie. The film Fear Clinic is in production and is based off the horror series FearNet where Freddie Kurger actor Robert Englund will play a “fear doctor” who tries to treat patients with severe phobias. Taylor’s role will be that of an employee at the doctor’s clinic who struggles to maintain control when all hell breaks loose. Sounds like he’ll get more than just a cameo! There’s an expected release date around Halloween next year. Like the Fear Clinic Facebook page to keep up to date.

Root to Work on Slipknot, Maynard's B-Day Bash, New Book Out Next Year, and New Documentary Out Now

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Root to work on Slipknot

Alright ... you know it ain’t just talk when a member of Slipknot steps down from a Stone Sour tour to focus on a new Slipknot album. Various members of Slipknot sans original bassist Paul Gray have been talking for about two years now about a new album and the need for everyone to get their bearings after Gray passed in 2010. With side projects abound for most of the original members, guitarist Jim Root is taking time off from Stone Sour in order to focus on Slipknot. What's interesting is Slipknot/Stone Sour front ghoul Corey Taylor’s current status. Is he standing aside to let the band work and then to come back and bring the pain or what ... we'll surely find out! For now, he’s touring with his other band Stone Sour. They’ll be out with Pop Evil January 14th. A new Slipknot album could come out sometime mid next year.

Maynard's b-day bash

It's one hell of a birthday bash coming up for Maynard James Keenan. He plans on rocking out with his two bands A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, showing off his ability to go from one bizarre alt-rock group to an even more bizarre alt-rock group. Either way, fans will surely be subdued on the eventual release of a new Tool album while they celebrate 50 years with the eccentric artist this coming May.

New book out next year

Just last year he was under threat of sever punishment from international justice in the accidental death of a fan at a show overseas, now Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe has a new book slated to come out summer of next year. The book title is titled Dark Days: My Tribulation and Trials. If you had part of a year of your life taken away in courts and manslaughter charges slung your way and then were found not guilty, you'd write a book too! There's also a movie about Blythe's struggles and how the band was there ready to go at any moment to be there by his side. That's expected out sometime next year.

New documentary out now

Speaking of documentaries, Thirty Seconds to Mars have a new documentary out this week about how they tired to get out of their record contract with EMI, and the subsequent $30 million lawsuit leveled against them. The documentary is titled Artificat

Hale Scissoring, Gathering to be Moved, Fan Dies, and Waters Cleared of Bully Charge

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Hale scissoring

Just in time for the holidays, Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale is launching her own clothing and accessory line. Scissor Happy will feature all handmade pieces. The front woman says she will start off small by offering only four items at first: a denim vest, a t-shirt, a belt buckle and a skull necklace. As for her inspiration, she says that she wants to put something out there to all the people who have inspired her … the fans! The website where you can find more and place your orders is

Gathering to be moved

Guess who’s not goin’ to Cave-In-Rock, Juggling Juggallos, Juggling Juggalos … Apparently The Gathering put on year-after-year by Insane Clown Posse won’t be going back to Cave-In-Rock in southern Illinois anymore. Organizers for the five-day music festival are seeking out another venue. Gatherings are typically plagued with stories of fights, arrests, overdoses, and even a few deaths. The sheriff over Cave-In-Rock ins’t too upset about the loss of the event—he says his communities resources won’t be drained to keep the crowds in check. A new location will be announced soon.

Fan dies

Remember that video a couple of weeks ago of Trent Reznor on stage using Facetime to talk with a fan just before playing that fan’s favorite tune “In This Twighlight”? Well, that fan, Andrew Youssef died. The video accompanied a story that Youssef was suffering from a terminal cancer and he wasn’t able to make it to the show in Las Vegas, so Reznor gave him a view that only the Nine Inch Nails front man could provide. Sadly, Youssef lost in his battle with colon cancer at the age of 38.

Waters cleared of bully charge

Don’t call Roger Waters an anti-Semite. The Pink Floyd front man says he never meant to offend Jews with the use of the Star of David in his three-year world tour for The Wall. He says he’s very concerned about wrongly being labeled a bully because of the display, which includes the six-pointed star along with other religious symbols falling from a plane during the tune “Goodbye Blue Sky.” Waters has met with the Anti-Defamation League who later came out saying they don’t believe the 70-year-old is an anti-Semite.

Lostprophets React to Watkins Admissions, and Movie Trailer Released

The QLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for Springfield’s Real Rock, 92.7 QLZ

Lostprophets react to Watkins admissions

If you’re a fan of Lostprophets, you may soon find yourself very lonely. That’s because people are jumping ship, including band members--This all after the gross revelations from Lostprophets front man Ian Watkins admitting to sex offenses involving children. Now the rest of the band has taken to Facebook saying they can’t believe someone they worked so close to for years would be capable of such a thing. The band also said that their relationship with Watkins has been a “constant, miserable challenge” in the recent past because of his egotism and drug problems. But now, it’s apparent there are deeper problems. Watkins admitted to several crimes last week, including trying to rape a baby. The rest of the band urges any other victims to contact authorities.

Movie trailer released

We’re starting to get a glimpse of that movie featuring Godsmack’s Sully Erna. Army of the Damned has released the official trailer for the action meets horror flick. The movie apparently revolves around a house where several police officers respond to a call and when they enter, it’s a bloody mess. Erna is seen early on showing off his tattoos while wearing a black tank top talking about the brutal scene inside the house. There are also several cheesy gun play scenes featured throughout the trailer. Erna isn’t the only music star … N Sync’s Joey Fatone also has a role, as does pron star Jasmin St. Claire and from the horror flick Candyman Tony Todd. The film goes straight to DVD January 14th. You may see it with video-on-demand as early as tomorrow.
